Hi guys, my instrument panel, where it shown the trip odometer and some other communications is deteriorating (see pic)
The car is always garaged and covered. Though it is very hot where I am living ( 87F during daytime)
Is this part (only this part of the instrument panel) serviceable or do I need to order the whole panel?

Please help...

@Dave2302 Suspect the unit will need swapping out?

Have you tried using one of those protective films that we all use on phones? No glue involved, so unlikely to damage.

The best bet would be to see if a specialist can change just the display .....................

I am pretty certain that the cluster in these is a "Theft Relevant" part, i.e. it is part of the Drive Authorisation (Immobiliser) system, so can't just plug and play, also if one was swapped in with a higher mileage it would then store that higher mileage in other modules thus de valuing the car, it might well just display dashes instead of miles, like a lot of other earlier model MB's do when they have had cluster swaps.

@Deplore may have had experience of these, I've never had one in and don't get those kind of issue in UK, in NW Scotland they would just freeze up or get damp

Display can be replaced, unfortunately R172 is too new to have replacement display on hand, so your best option is to buy a junk cluster and then disassemble and swap the display over.

Display is not coded, so it can be simply swapped over. But the PCB with the MCU and eeprom is not swappable, not unless you like having your mileage change...

Yes, I have seen different videos on youtube regarding LCD disply replacement for MB
But indeed as Deplore stated, I can't find any display for the R172.
I cannot find the part number for the display either
I am still searching.
