If you are learning about tire sizes and what is best for your car, this may help you a little.

I found this kinda helpful in my search for new rims.

I was surprized to read that the tires are not taller with larger rims...I guess the tire rubbing issues I have read here and on other forums must be from the width of the tire?

SLKman, most rubbing issues are in fact from the added width. Yet some rubbing is caused by incorrect tire sizes where one increases the diameter too much. Rubbing can also be caused by incorrect offsets, making the tire stick out too much (rubbing the fender) or stick in (rubbing the wheel well). Lastly, lowering your vehicle increases the chance of the tire making contact.

A good tire shop/manufacturer will look out for these problems. I've seen bad shops just 'guesstimate' what will work. I also occasionally see poor sizing with wheel & tire combinations. A friend got a G35 that has staggered front and rear tire sizes. He later bought aftermarket wheels that both measured the same width. So, the tire shop put 225 on the front and placed 245 on the rear. Now, again, the wheel width was the same. I believe they were about 8.5" wide. The end result; the front's had the wheel sticking out beyond the tire sidewall. The rear looked okay.

I think that's what makes forums like this so great. Instead of guessing or hoping the shop picks the right size, you can inquire with others that have gone through the trouble already. I think Ynot and myself had gone through several sets before getting it right! You get to learn from our mistakes.

Yep, everyone thinks I'm an expert lol, it's thru trial and error, I know my offsets b/c of experience, and wheels are something I change out right away, rarely is there an OEM wheels I like. :)
