Hi,
I brought a 560SL over to France from Canada. The car was PERFECT for the CDN roads , but when I got it here ,the lack of straight-a-ways and the predominance of narrow tight curves ,was too much for the car..... mean while Clios and 207s where running the roads like they were magnetic slot cars.

So , I am now looking at a manual trans 2001 SLK 320/217HP and a manual 2004/185HP . Similar mileage for both 90000K area

Here are some stats :
Mercedes SLK 320 vs Mercedes SLK II 200K [2513649]

Euro drivers: Betwreen the two What would your choice be?
Thanks
John

I am a current owner of both right now! Selling my 320 though.

The SLK R171 has tighter handling and the cabin has a much more modern feel than the R170. R170 feels more of a straight line cruiser and doesn't give a huge amount of feedback from the steering.

Having said that the 320 is a great engine but a bit thirsty and not the best for a winter in Scotland I found. The 200K engine doesn't throw you back in your seat but with a manual and if you work it hard you can still have fun. Coming from the 560SL you might find the 200k too sluggish.

If you have any specific questions let me know.

Thanks! that helps alot since I will not be doing much "straight line ' driving.
But I do have another question:
The 2004 I was looking at was listed as 184 HP ........It sold before I could go and see it, I am now looking at a 2006 listed at 163 HP.
I did a bit of checking and I guess the CPU can be remapped but looking at the stats both setups have the same torque at the same RPM.

Which version is yours?

SLK 200 KOMPRESSOR 2004–2008 1,796 cc (1.796 L; 109.6 cu in) I4 supercharged (M271) 163 PS (120 kW; 161 hp)@5500, 240 N·m (180 lb·ft)@3000-4000
SLK 200 KOMPRESSOR 2008–2011 1,796 cc (1.796 L; 109.6 cu in) I4 supercharged (M271) 184 PS (135 kW; 181 hp)@5500, 240 N·m (180 lb·ft)@3000-4000
Thanks again,
John

Mine is the 161bhp version.

If it's not enough power for you, suggest to look at the 280 model.

Best way to find out would be to test drive a 200K and see what you think. Another note, I have heard people say that 200K automatics feel underpowered so bear that in mind if you are going for an auto.

For me, the 200K was the right balance of power and ownership costs (tax, fuel economy, city parking permit).

Remember 280 is also labeled as the 300 in certain markets.

SLK 300 (known as SLK 280 in some markets) – 3.0 L (2996 cc) 170 kW (231 PS; 228 hp) double overhead cam V6 engine, 0–100 km/h (62 mph) 6.3 seconds, top speed 155 mph. (starting in 2006 model year)
