Hi Everyone. I liked the welcome that I received yesterday.....the world is such a small place.:D
I have a 1998 SLK230 R170 with the common roof problem and feel that I can fit seals if only I could get to them!

The problem is that my roof will NOT OPEN in any way. I've replaced the RHS trunk ram as I thought it was the problem, as the only action is from the LHS until things jam up. There appears to be no leaking fluid and levels are full.

The trunk is stripped to as much as possible but all rebuilds that I read about are possible when the top is half open. How do I open it?? Can I rebuild the top opening ram without it's removal?
I've read most of the threads but none give detail of how to manually lift the top. I really don't think I have a switch problem but others may have a different view. It feels that a latch may not be releasing.... but why does the LHS trunk move up 2 inches and that's it? I can't get to much to check all the bits. Cheers from Barry in AUSTRALIA F)

Thanks for your suggestions but on page 23 of my owners manual it only describes how to CLOSE the roof by emergency procedure.... not OPEN it as I require. I'm still waiting for clues as to handle this problem. :hb:

Thanks. I did in fact find the problem. The release cable had slipped off the RHS trunk ram preventing the trunk from fully opening. One this was fixed the roof worked perfectly many times.
