Hi,
Thanks for the welcome to the forum. My name is Ian Manning and I live near Huntingdon in the UK. My partner and I have just taken delivery a new SLC Sport in white with a few extras (heated seats, air scarf, LED lights, sat nav, 18" wheels, etc). It's a great looking car and great to drive, being both fun and practical. We chose the Sport with 18" AMG wheels as we didn't like the firmer ride of the fully equipped AMG model (we have some pretty poor roads here in this part of the UK!). On the second long drive, an odd squeak and creak appeared and I did a search of the forum and found out about the seals issue. However, at the moment, the noises have disappeared but I want to be able to ward off any return by making sure the seals in tip top condition. However, although I am happy to try Gummi Pflege, my partner, probably reasonably, feels we should use an approved MB product (which I assume Gummi Pflege isn't?). Also, I am wary of trying to lubricate the seals without a MB approved way of keeping the hood open safely. Any advice would be gratefully received! Cheers,
Ian

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.

Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.

Hi Ian, and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us and posting an intro! :)

We have quite a few members in the UK that like to meet up from time to time, although things are a little quieter during the winter months. If you're interested in joining us sometime, just keep an eye on the UK Region section, as we post meeting plans there! :tu:

There's a summary post that I maintain for all UK meets here, and links to examples and pictures from this year's past meets are available here.

Finally, we also recently started plotting where our UK members are - check out the thread for that here: SLKWorld UK & Ireland Members and Meeting Points Map

Thank you

For the uneexpected squeaks and rattles, pay a visit to MB and cash in on that warranty ?

Welcome from Canada

Krytox is a brand that is probably identical to the MB rubber seal product and is just a tad less expensive.

Hi Ian,
Welcome to the forum from Wormingford in Essex! Sounds like a lovely car you've got there... I agree with your comment about not wanting to end up with too hard a ride we have some pretty poor roads here as well. I'd rather have a bit more comfort than be able corner a few mph faster. As for the squeak and the creak, I would mention it to Mercedes to see what they would do about it. Check what their solution is first though, as I wouldn't want them pulling half the car apart for no good reason.
I'm new to the forum myself, it's very friendly and a great source of information.

Happy Motoring :)

Hi!
I headlined my first post as I did because I really do find these forums confusing. For example, I logged in earlier to the site (after yet again having to reset my password as I can't seem to find a reliable way of changing the system generated one to a personal one, but that's another story!) and could not find my post anywhere. not in the 'New Members' posts listing and not via the search facility. The only way to find it was via the email I received with a URL. I'm sure it's all really simple, but I do find these systems don't seem to match my thinking patterns! Anyway, good to read all the responses and links. As my car is under warranty, I am trying to find out if Gummi Pflege is approved ny MB.
Cheers,
Ian
