I need to level with you guys... I'm a flipper. Stumbled across a great deal on a 1999 SLK230 Kompressor with one owner, 99k, all records, that has never spent a night outside. I've missed working on German cars since I sold my E39 BMW M5 earlier this year, so I thought it would be a fun project to restore it to its former glory then move it down the line to the next happy owner. Joining the forum so I can make sure to do it right so the next owner gets a solid car.

Items I'm planning to fix are new engine and transmission mounts (already did the LH, saw the RH was weeping while I was down there, so I'll do that too), interior trim paint, fix an ABS code, and (scary) get the Vario Roof working again. I think I've traced the proximate cause of the Vario Roof issue to the S69/12 switch or its harness. It tested bad, but we'll see what happens once I fix that and am able to fully cycle the roof.

Biggest risk of the project is that this car is kind of growing on me. I'm not a roadster guy by any means, but I do love small RWD cars. So we'll see if it ends up in my garage permanently.

Thanks for all the help I've received so far as a lurker. Just like with my M5, German car forums are a great place to hang out and learn. Looking forward to spending more time here!

Update: Roof is working (there was a broken wire in the trunk harness causing no signal from S69/12). BAS ASR light seems to be gone after a couple short test drives (Brake Switch). All new Engine/Transmission mounts installed (a German car loves new engine mounts). Interior cleaned up, just debating whether to risk cracking the trim during the repainting process. I may leave that up to the next loving owner.

Just got back from a quick test drive in the cold evening air, top down, heater and heated seat blasting. Automotive achievement unlocked!

all that easy problem-solving is the just the car's way of asking you not to sell it. Keep it, you know you want to deep down in your id.....

I flipped from 15 years of being a Beemer driver - and although I enjoyed all of them none made me feel as big a kid (or smile as much) as my SLC 43. This morning I started it up 3 times in a row just to hear the roar.. Big kid...
