My husband is deployed to iraq and I am moving back home to be closer with family this next year. My only concern is transporting my car. Does anyone know if Mercedes has a way of transporting my car from Boston to Fort Wayne, IN?

What is the smartest cheapest way to get this done? I am desperate to find a source with limited income. HELP!

I wish your husband well...

As to the car, the least expensive way is drive the car about 800 miles from Boston. Maybe family or close friends would like the drive if you can't.

If your renting a U-haul and moving other stuff, You can rent a car trailer to go along with it.

You can ask your local MB dealer who they would recommend for trailer service. Never hurts to ask.

Good luck with your move.

I agree with Tslick on his comments. I have transported several cars over the years and it is not your least expensive option. If you can't do Tslick's suggestions, then you will have an option of open or closed transport. Open is less expensive. If you are flexible on when you need the car transported you can usually get a better rate. Also, shop around.

If you need any help you can PM me.

If you can give me flexible dates and times, I may be able to drive it for you on a couple off days next month. Since I can travel by air for free, I can get from one place to another easily. If you could meet me at an airport nearby, I could drop it with your relatives at their local airport.

OR I could see about getting a buddy pass for a relative one-way between points and they could drive it back...

Damn I would love to have the freedom to drive this for you.

That's the kind of trip I wanted to do for years. Sadly marriage and children prevent a man from living! ;)

As a happy member of the SLK community and a Vet, I also thank you personally for supporting your husband's service; I am well aware of what the spouses and families of our Service members go through, and proud to see members of this group pulling together to help out!

We were going to move this year from New Hampshire to CO, the cost to ship the honda was around $1200, just to give you an idea .

I'd agree the trailers are pretty cheap way of doing it and there pretty sturdy. I did this with the 55 once.. although it was a little low for the straps I bought some 20 doller straps and secured it down.. Leave the brakes off.

Oh my gosh DJ, I haven't checked this thread because i lost all hope, but after I got the notice from your PM I came on here to see. I am tearing up right now because I am so humbled by your gracious offer! Thank you so much.

The great news is, I have my husband's best friend who is more than happy to drive my car down with his girlfriend. When my husband called him and asked him to help me out, he said no problem. I am so blessed to have such a great support network. Personally and on this website. I have never been so inspired by the amount of help people are volunteering to make this time easier for me. I was very scared and stressed out trying to keep things together while he is out there and this is all helping.

Next hurdle; if he is driving out, I now need to find a one-way flight to Fort Wayne. Once again, cost is an issue with me.

No need to fret. You happen to know an airline captain. Get on Delta.com and see what you can find for a flight from Boston to Fort Wayne. I don't know where we fly. but I'm sure we get close. Let me know what you come up with, and I'm sure I can free up a pass for space available travel. There are some fees associated, but very small in comparison to a ticket. You have to be flexible, as you only go if there is an open seat, but it sounds like you're not on a strict time-table...

You guys have got to be kidding me! I wish that I knew some press guys to give this site some recognition and to sing from the rooftops about what you guys are doing! You hear alot of no-so-nice things about how people treat our troops in the news. I know that I am not the one serving, I am not sure if I am as tough as my husband. However, helping me during rough times and a rough economy is very inspirational. I will definitely pay it forward!

I was quite shocked when I found out that for reserve marines that are deployed, there is no moving assistance for their families. However, my husband has been in the military for 12 years and after he comes back would like to go active duty. His contract was up this year and he put in his request to renew his contract and to go active duty; however it was denied. We found out a few months later that it was denied so that he would go to Iraq with his reserve unit. Bless his heart his comment about the whole thing is, "I would rather go than some kid that scared and doesn't want to go and isn't ready." This is his third deployment.

I am crying. Literally I am crying! I am going to take a ton of pics and post it on here and let you know how my move goes! I am a big SLKWORLD FAN! Oh my gosh!

:hail: DJ, once again, your offer is generous! I would love to figure this out! I would like to fly out from BOS to FWA on Wednesday, June 10th. I don't care what the times you can fly me there, I will be at the airport with bells on! I will PM you with my personal email!

Here are some pictures of me and Family day. I couldn't believe how large the trucks were! The tires are as big as me! Also, the pic of our wedding day. He saluted me and I started laughing, then I struck this pose! It is my favorite picture from the whole night!

All I can say is.......
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!
