After my morning jaunt and bugging and beating 1 mustang, 1 camaro and a motorcycle and then dodging a patrol car by putting my top down (made him think I was not who he saw (these are not the drones you are looking for. :D), my air conditioner decided to start blowing not cold/cool air. Well, I am like a beautiful flower and must be kept fresh and cool.
I was told by a mechanic that when you demand more acceleration from your car, the ac will take back seat until the power demand is lessened. Well, it never resumed cool air. I shut the ac off and then turned it on and in the past, it would come back with a vengeance. This time, nope.
Hmmmmmmm, me thinks. 7 1/2 year old car. Freon/refrigerant just does not disappear unless a leak. Hmmmmmmm.

So this was easy but I was too stupid to see the answer in front of my face.
And I have done this before but caught it. Must be senility starting
Automatic climate control.
what did I do to make it not work or what did I do to now make it work?
Clue for newbies: Sometimes it shines, sometimes it doesn't :D

Experts, let em see if they can figure it out.

Okay, I'm a newbie, and it's a guess, but had you blocked the C-AAC sun sensor?

On facelift R171s with automatic climate control, there is a separate a/c button. If lit, a/c is on
prefacelift R171s, If not lit, a/c is on.
I had selected manual, which turned my a/c button light 'off' and I did not notice it. So when I selected Auto again, a/c was not on and I was just blowing outside air.

Is the red LED light on the AC button not bright enough in daylight?

I had occasions where I thought the AC on light indicator was off (but it wasn't) when driving with row retracted in daylight. The sun was bright and I had to use my hand to cast a shadow on the control button-of-interest to verify if the red LED was on or not.
