I received and hooked up my Pedal Commander today, install was simple and only takes 5 mins or so to put in. So far I’m really really impressed. I know some people will say it’s a gimmick and it just imitates applying more pressure to the gas pedal but honestly that’s just not correct and you’ll know instantly when you drive it. The way the car performs and responds now feels completely different than just giving it more gas, the difference is night and day. It’s almost like the difference between driving in eco mode vs sports mode, no matter how hard you smash the gas pedal it’s just not the same.

I know there are a few other throttle mods out there like the pedal box, I chose this one because it has a lot more driving settings but I imagine they all pretty much work the same way.

I got mine off amazon for $300, they have a 14 day return period but honestly after you try it you probably won’t return it.

I'm confused. Out of interest what your motives for the purchase?
Were you unhappy with the general performance of the car?


I had seen reviews on YouTube for the product and similar ones and thought it seemed interesting. It’s not that the car has poor performance but anything can be improved, so I gave it a shot and I’m happy with my purchase.

Thanks. I wonder if any other owners have gone down the same route.
Is the install easy for a mechanical/electrical thicko like me?

Yes, it’s incredibly simple. There are two bolts that keep your gas pedal in place, you unscrew those and you’ll see there’s a plug connected to your pedal. You just remove the cord, plug in the cord for the pedal commander, then plug the original into another plug on the pedal commander and that’s it. The pedal commander is a Y cord. It only takes 5 mins or so.

I have the Piecha throttle booster installed. Install was a breeze.. took like 2-4 min tops. The Piecha unit has only two settings - City & Sport. I chose "Sport", of course :grin:. Never changed the setting since, so the car has adjusted fully to the new throttle setup. Love it, and cannot imagine driving the car without this gimmick... Sport and City has "0-10" additional adjustments/settings, but I am at default of "5" in the Sport mode. That seems fairly aggressive enough for me. Anything higher would be way over aggressive...

Kinda like this video. Lots of review out there but apparently there is a new version of the unit that has a "parking mode" (turns unit off for easier parking) and a valley and valet mode.

You can lock out the pedal with this gizmo so the car is running BUT the gas pedal is inoperative. Maybe the solution to the "keyless entry" dilemma detailed elsewhere on the forum. It requires a code to lock/unlock. Wonder though if the unit is just disconnected from the pedal whether that "unlocks" the pedal? Dunno.

Install is on a bmw and it looks like it was done in Toronto.


Not a scientific test BUT done by what seems to be a regular joe (although he tests a lot of things).

I don’t know if I would want that on my car. It seems to light up the rear end far too easily already!
Agree 100% (same car as you). Once you get a few miles on the (new) tires, it's real easy to light 'em up. And that's not just from a standing start either.

Sorry, but that is all it is doing. Where does it hook in to? Your accelerator connection. It is just remapping your accelerator pedal travel. BMW does this on most of their cars and racers hate it as you get 70% of your throttle in the first 30% of the pedal travel. Then the final 70% of travel only gives you 30% more throttle. If you are road racing or on a twisty road, it makes it much more difficult to modulate the throttle.

It certainly does trick your brain in to thinking the car is peppier than before just because of how it works. That is why BMW and others do it too. It gives a sporty feeling of quick acceleration during normal driving, but it really is the same as pushing the pedal down more. If you are happy with it, then it was worth it to you! That is why we modify cars, to make them exactly what each of us wants.

Re: the "pedal lock" I referred to earlier as a possible solution to thieves grabbing codes..

Folks at Sprint Booster replied to my email: once the gizmo is removed, the pedal works normally.

So unless you can hide the contraption.........

Mine is well hidden, but then why would a thief want to steal a throttle booster??? Isn't the car far more valuable to steal than just a piece of cable?? :| If anyone tries to steal my Piecha throttle control module, such a thief is a stupid person.... I'd rather he stole the whole car so I can get the insurance money to buy a 43 or 55... >:D at which a pedal boost will not be needed..... j/k of course about having my car stolen... I have invested a tidy sum in that ride and love it so nobody better try to steal it....

You misunderstand @b82012 Omo. They DO want the car but the pedal doesn't work. They find the lock, don't need to know the code just disconnect it. AND away we go :grin:

The lock part is only effective if they can't find (or don't know about) the sprint booster

Have you tried one before? Because I can genuinely tell you that the amount of instant acceleration that you get when you use it can not be replicated by just pressing down harder.

I haven't tried that exact one, but I remapped my BMW to get rid of the exact thing you are adding. It only hooks in to the throttle pedal, it can't possibly do anything else. All it is doing is amplifying the signal coming out of the pedal, which is the same thing as pushing it down further.

Think about how it connects, there are just 2 connectors and it goes inline with the throttle pedal. So the signal coming in to the box is the same as the ECU would normally see. The ECU has a parameter for the throttle pedal (max and min voltage) and that corresponds to 0-100% throttle. The pedal commander cannot go outside of that range or it will throw an error code. So, that means the only thing it is doing is changing the response curve for the pedal depending on the input. Like I said in my other post, this means you get to a higher throttle percentage much quicker, but it is literally the same thing as pressing the pedal down faster. If it replaced the sensor on the accelerator, then you could potentially be getting rid of lag built in to the stock sensor, but it does not.

Try this in your car, start accelerating at 50% pedal travel for a few seconds, then push the pedal the other 50% of the way down. You will notice very little difference in acceleration because your ECU sees your pedal as being almost at maximum already. I don't doubt the car feels quicker in daily driving, like I said before, that is why many manufacturers put a similar curve in their cars from the factory. It feels sporty and peppy. It is also part of what goes on in most cars when you press the sport button.

Personally I don't want my pedal to lie for me. If I want 50% throttle, I will push the throttle down 50% of the way. I don't want 90% throttle when it is 50% down because then you lose the linearity and control that you need if you are pushing the car. If you are happy with it, then by all means enjoy it, but that doesn't change the way it works. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't misinformation out there on what it does. It sounds like you enjoy it so then it was a good purchase!

Clearly you’re knowledgeable on the subject and I respect your input. I don’t know the mechanics behind this but what I do know is that if you put the car in the factory sport mode and floor it vs putting the pedal commander in a higher mode (in addition to the factory sport mode), and you floor it the car will be significantly faster with the pedal commander. The way that the car reacts with the pc is completely different than just pushing down harder on the gas, the amount of initial acceleration that you experience with it isn’t duplicatable by just pressing the pedal down as hard as you can.
