Just a guy who drives his car and maintains and does minor repairs on the curbside. I've been driving this SLK for a couple of years and I've used the forums to solve a few problems on this well used vehicle. Currently about 180,000 miles and climbing. It's a daily driver in all weather and never garaged so it lives a hard life. My first Mercedes and I have to admit has been much more serviceable than I had expected. Oddly has been easier and as cheap to repair as the convertible Celica.

About to track down a starter problem where the starter spins but does not engage, especially when cold. So I've been spending this cold day to search for others with like issues and I'll spend the warmer day tomorrow removing the starter to look into the solinoid.

Thanks for welcome

Thanks to all for the welcome.
Atariver, I'm hoping to refurb just the solenoid, I've been successful in returning starters to working order by taking apart the solenoid and cleaning up the contacts and lubricating moving surfaces. I'll take it apart and look. I have a replacement starter picked out with a one year tow warranty if the patch job fails.
