How to Clean the AMG Engine Plaque

6367 Views 21 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  jbanks15
Hi All -

New owner here. Curious on the best way to clean / preserve the AMG Engine plaque with the mechanics signature. Mine is quite dull and faded. I don't want to accidentally remove the contrast of the signature and the plate.

Cheers !

Soap and water (car shampoo) to clean it. Armor All if you must, there are better protectants around, to maybe bring back some colour. It's probably been pressure cleaned with solvents at some point so there's not much you can do short of repainting it.
I haven't done anything special on the signature plaque other than the usual cleaning with damp microfiber cloth.
Have to try the soap...not amour all? Mine is sort of dull, too!
If mine gets dull, I may use High-temperature silver paint and employ liquid masking to cover the dark areas.
No more plaques any longer so best you take care of it....it might be rare one day

Really? Wow, I had not heard that one. Too bad. I always liked that. Does that also mean that they no longer employ the one-man, one-engine approach using only one master tech per engine?

Did you notice that if looking into the AMG emblem from the front of the car, the inscription is faded/dull. But if you look at the AMG emblem from the side of the car, you see a very sharp contrast.

No more plaques for those with the same engine as found in the SLC43, just a red stripe.

Because the engine is NOT built by AMG (no one man - one engine).:frown:

Yes.

Engines built by AMG tend to have some "different" components replaced/upgraded to higher performance enhancement as opposed to "regular" mass produced engines.

IIRC in the M113 engine, the intake and exhaust valves were of a different metallurgy which was the reason why the engine oil temperature flashes every second until it reaches 80ºC before one is "allowed" to push the engine beyond 3000 rpm. (Woolly explained this in the past)

With the mass produced V6 twin turbo engine (M276 DELA 30), perhaps there is not much room left for AMG to "tune" or MB decided to "cap" the performance ceiling for certain model vehicles so as not to compete or cannibalize the "higher" end vehicles and maintain the AMG marketing "edge".

The AMG name in their newer line-up does not "mean" much anymore. :crying::crying::crying:

We have a rare breed. The last of the AMG normally aspirated engines. I have seen on the internet there will be an SLC 63 AMG? Anyone else seen this? I thought the SLC 43 AMG was going to be the replacement.

Mercedes SLC spied: it's the new 2016 SLK! by CAR Magazine

2017 Mercedes-AMG SLC63 | News, Rumors, Specs | Digital Trends

Goodbye, SLK 55 AMG. Hello, 362bhp Merc-AMG SLC 43 | Top Gear

New engines as part of the SLK facelift.

Expect engines to follow those recently announced for the 2015 model year SLK, available with a mix of six-speed manual and nine-speed automatic transmissions. We anticipate the following:

SLC 200 181bhp 2.0 four-cylinder
SLC 300 242bhp 2.0 four-cylinder
SLC 400 328bhp 3.5 V6
SLC 63 AMG 503bhp 4.0 V8
SLC 250d 201bhp 2.2 four-cylinder turbodiesel

Turbo AMG's

With the new generation of Turbo engines at MB, maybe the difference between the std E Klasse or the S Klasse, will be the ECU reflash that raises the boost and alters the spark advance curves, etc. Perhaps bolting on a bigger radiator and oil cooler in the process to handle the heat stresses or a high flow cat set to breath better at higher outputs. "One Engine, One Computer" is the new tag line? I know, I know, I am just stirring die S*****e...

My choice would have been the M156 engine. But i guess it's no more ! Having had bikes for the last 40 years, the SLK is over a ton heavier, and a lot wider than i'm used to. But it's still FANTASTIC !!! I don't need anything faster.

Wasn't there guidance on SLKW advising how to obtain a replacement AMG engine plaque?

Mine is extremely faded also.

is it faded when viewed from the side? or head on?
