Its a very common problem with European cars, in the last year Ive had broken front and rear springs on both the SLK. the Octavia is a 2010 with less than 25K miles. Surprisingly the SLK springs were cheaper.

Not sure at your end but here the roads are not the best. I had change 3 springs in the last 2 years on three different cars, 2 slk and one vw passat.just has the SLK serviced by a great independent on the Surrey/Hampshire border (Huxleys in Fleet) if anyone needs a referral.
Anyway, question - they found a broke rear spring, at it's base.... anyone heard of such a thing on a 2010 car ?
Is this MB quality at it's best ?
As others have said, can happen at any time, even driving out of the show room. We expect to get many miles out of our springs, but really they can snap any time depending on a number of factors e.g. road conditions, age of spring (I've known some to sit on a shelf for years before being fitted possibly corroding), manufacturing fault, improper installation etc
Go fo suplex springs i have them on my 350 and they are very cheap. That`s another spring gone today. That`s 3 in a year. 2 front, 1 rear on my 7 y.o. 50k 280.
Never had springs go on any of my previous cars...junk, if you ask me.

You find them on ebay i paid 40 for 2 front springs
For the manufactures yes It is .Its all about the money, you just said that
I know it's frustrating, but I don't think you can blame the entire make of car because of this problem. My 06, 280 (registered in 2005, almost 11 years old) has the original springs with no problems. 110,000 miles. The roads in Connecticut are terrible. That`s another spring gone today. That`s 3 in a year. 2 front, 1 rear on my 7 y.o. 50k 280.
