Can anyone help! My new SLK 350 was recalled by Mercedes for faulty airbags. The car has been returned with 2cm x 2cm tears in the the column part of the steering wheel. Surely this can't be right, the car had only done 700 miles! Apparently holes have to be made to remove the air bag, but this has damaged the car surely these rips are not fair?

Moved your 1st thread out of out of gb section to the new member introduce yourself here

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Valrico, Florida!

First please update your location and vehicle (year?: 1996-2016, model?: 32, 200, 230, 250, 280, 300,320,350,55) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t.
Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
Post your vin in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on your car). You must update your profile with vehicle info and your location and post an introduction first.

No way would I accept this, nor I would have thought would Mercedes, sounds to me like an almighty cock up at the dealers
I'd be back there in the morning having a chat with the head honcho

Not acceptable for a new car. They need to sort that pronto. I would not accept that and I'd want a courtesy car while they replace the steering wheel.

Welcome from Madrid ...

The holes at the rear for removing the airbag are normal ( a small 5mm hole is enough , not tears ) , another thing is that they do this on a car with 700 miles due to a faulty airbag , their fault , and don't replace the wheel as well , I'd have a good moan and see where it gets you !

Hi and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

I agree with all of the comments above... Not acceptable, especially if it's a brand new car, and needs to be put right!

... and, as Jeff has already mentioned, it would be great if you could update your location and car details in your profile, please. :D

Gah. No way. I assume by new you mean "brand new" i.e. a 2015 reg car still under warranty? Just take it back and say, not good enough. If they needed to do something to the wheel, fine. If that something damages the wheel, they'll be wanting to replace the entire wheel.

What, JOOI, was the issue with the airbag? You say "remove" but I presume you mean "replace" ?

Welcome from Washington, DC.

Ditto what the others have said, unacceptable for dealer work even if not a new car. Take it back or write a letter and you'll get results pronto.

Hi and welcome from central Florida.

Please update your location/vehicle (model and year) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information.
