I have and love my SLK320 R170, but I also love the interior of the R171, has anyone ever tried to mate a newer interior into an older model? Is it even possible to use any of the interior from the R171? Can it be modified to fit? Would look lovely if it did.

Damn, would look lovely with the dash in the older car, wonder if it can be trimmed to squeeze in. What about seats and steering wheel or are they different aswell?

I always think that with enough time, money and effort then anything is possible, unfortunately I only have two of the above at the moment lol

After browsing the internet I have found one site that says the r171 is 65mm wider and another that says the r171 is 291mm wider, so either way it will require a fair bit of modding and refining to fit a newer dashboard in. And I've read the seats aren't worth changing and also the newer wheels won't fit so I guess that put paid to that idea lol maybe someone somewhere will have a pop at it one day and make it work but I'll be sticking with the original blue/black interior I've got.

Well according to the Mercedes web page the difference between an r170 320 and the r171 350 is 73mm overall width. Now maybe the arches and wheel width could account for this and maybe the cabin is the same width? Anyone with a r171 350 fancy measuring across the top of the dash pillar to pillar to get a measurement. 73mm is just over an inch wider on each side on overall width of the r171 so it's not that different. Obviously even if it does fit with some fetteling then there's the issue of wiring and computer parts to splice in. Doesn't seem to bad a job with abit of patience and a lot of electrical know how.

I find the hip and legroom to be almost the same 170 vs 171. For me the white gauges are easier to read with sunglasses on. Did seem to get the 171 seat a little further back but wonder if the seat back was thinner in the 171.

Agree most of the width difference seems to be in the fender flairs which are much more pronounced on the 171 and allow wider rear tires.

Do miss the tilt steering though. Anyone know if you can put a manual T&T steering column from a 171 in a 170 ?
