Hi guys

230k owner feeling a bit sheepish.

How do I get into my car?

I think the batteries in the remote locker has failed. I have two of them, one of them stopped about 4 weeks ago so I switched to the other, and that worked.

Now neither of them do and I actually can't get into my car at all.

There is no keyhole!!!!!

On the driver's door handle there's a metal circle where a keyhole might be, with a picture of a key on it. Can I remove this? How? I tried with a screwdriver and couldn't get any purchase to lever it out - I don't even know if it's possible.

But I want to use my car and I can't get in!

Very frustrated, please help!!!

Benny

Ok update to this:

There's a plastic cap on the lock. I took that off, put the key in...

... Key doesn't turn. Not at all.

What now?

Any help would be very gratefully received, I need that car to work!

Thanks for the replies guys

But... Surely even without batteries in the remote control, the key should still work manually?

It doesn't.

Welcome from Oregon. Not sure about the 2002, but on the 2009 the Valet key inside the remote works to open/unlock the door. Hope you find an answer soon.

Yes, it's the same keys I've been using to drive it around the last 18 months.

I can open and lock/unlock the boot, yes.
Mechanical keys:
If you have both keys with you.
Compare them and make sure they are the same cut pattern.
Next, try both keys to open your boot (trunk). If both of them work, then go to next step.
Insert the first key to the driver side door lock with the handle pointed to the ceiling and try to turn it "Counter Clockwise".
Make sure you insert the key all the way in.
It you cannot turn it counter clockwise, slightly move the key away from the lock (approx 0,5 mm) and try to turn it.

If fail, repeat for the second key.

Remote key FOB:
Did you see the tiny red light blinking when you push any key on the remote ???? If not then you need to replace the batterys.

Good luck

Should there be some kind of flashing red light on the radio console?

There isn't...

Is the battery dead?
