Hi, I purchased my 2005 SLK 350 14 years ago. I have ~93K miles and last year drove less than 2K.

I signed up on this forum several years ago but have never posted.

I live in Raleigh, NC

I have been reading through the many threads on headlight replacement. I purchased the headlights from eBay (OEMassive)

I hoped it would be straight forward to swap them out but am now concerned by all the posts on having to change wiring, a resistor and then the tricky adjustments to align the beams.

I'll post me results/experience later this week.

Welcome from Atlanta. Bulb replacement is no big deal assuming your car hasn't been modified. It's easiest if you remove the wheel well liner, at least the front half.

I looked at ebay this morning and it appears you're replacing the entire headlight assembly. The replacement is somewhat more complex than just replacing the bulb, but is still straightforward.

Does your car have halogen or bi-xenon headlights currently? And can you provide a link to the ebay item?

You'll need to remove the wheel well liners (the front halves at least) and the bumper cover. The headlight assembly is held in place by 3 8mm bolts which are plainly visible afterwards. It's debatable whether the headlight can be removed without removing the bumper cover, but the effort is not that great to remove it.

Hi, thanks, not sure on current headlights. My car is a 2005 so very first of the new SLK design back then.

Been looking at YouTube videos on how to remove the bumper so I am planning to do that.

OK - Halogen was standard from the factory, bi-xenon (aka HID) was an option from the factory. Your data card would clarify what you have. Aftermarket HID retrofits were common, so watch out for those too. That ebay listing is for a halogen assembly (it says "DOES NOT FITS MODELS WITH OEM HID SYSTEM").

I am in the middle of this effort, have one headlight out and see the halogen have parts that are not able to retrofit to the new headlights. I assume they are related to halogen and therefore not required on the replacement headlights ??

Thanks, Ross

Can you explain "not able to retrofit"? And maybe post pictures?
