As the title says, Hi Everyone!

I have been hanging around the forum for a couple of weeks, reading allsorts of things and could spend a lot more money than I have on 'extras'!

I have recently bought a 2009 SLK300 in gorgeous metallic black with 39k on the clock.

I came from an S2000 and although the SLK is a completely different car, I am loving it .

Not sure I will ever be a big contributor, I'm more of a reader but ......well..........

HI

If you don't mind the question, how different is driving the 2000?

I don't mind the question at all. First of all, thanks for the warm welcome from everyone, there is a wealth of information on here.

In the 4 years that I had the S2000 my partner never let me forget that it didn't even have a clock. That maybe says something about the level of equipment!

The Honda has about the same power but the majority of that power is delivered between 6000 and 9000 RPM, not a great deal of torque below that. It takes quite a bit of effort to keep it in that range if you want to get moving but it's a glorious sound and quite grin inducing, especially with an aftermarket air intake.

The gearbox in the Honda is the best manual box I have ever driven but it has very close ratios - at 3000 RPM in 6th you are only doing 54MPH.

The Honda handling is very good, it goes round corners better than the SLK and that is to be expected but I'm getting to enjoy the way the SLK drives more every time I go out in it. I think this is just me getting used to the car and not expecting it to handle like the Honda.

I don't need to tell you how the SLK is, I'll just say the SLK is just such a nice place to be.

Saying all this, I was quite torn when I saw the dealer driving the Honda away to make sure it wasn't a shed.

I'm glad I had the Honda, a great car that does exactly what it was designed for but I don't regret swapping more one minute.

Cheers,

Colin
