New to this site........need help!!! I have a SLK320 2001, 169k miles. Just bought it and it drove great. had to fix the convertible top...rebuilt leaky pistons, works great now......ok back to my problem. I started feeling a hesitation when I would step on the gas from a stop, got worse, then check engine light came on. checked codes P0400. been researching code. found a vacuum line loose at the front of the engine...reconnected and it turned off the light. however, this morning i went to drive it and the hesitaion is back. It seems to come back when it is colder out. I live in Hawaii so colder is not really cold. about 65 degrees this morning, but last night at about 75 degrees it was fine. I took apart the EGR valve to pull out the tube and clean it, however, i could not get the tube out of the ?manifold? i know its got some bends but could not hold my mouth the right way to get it out. any suggestions on how to remove it or any other ideas on fixing the hesitation i'm getting? already cleaned the MAF, replaced air filters. Thanks - Jon

do petrol engines have egr valves I thought it was only diesel engines ????
Also found in petrol engines at least in North America for emissions/air quality reasons.

well when egr valves play up on our diesel trucks you can either take it off and clean them out with petrol or blank them off with a steel plate or just remove the vac pipe and plug it with a small bolt ect all will eliminate the problem if the egr is at fault as its usualy just exhaust soot making them stick
