Flew in on the morning flight from Stockholm and bought the car on Friday around 12;00 noon in Helsingborg, hit the motorway at 13:00 and plowed the fluff snow into the fast lane.... summer tires... and no chance or time to find any. I had to be back at work at 7 pm...and 570KM in front of me and snowing...uggg

No doubt its risky business, but had no choice. Luckily the previous owner had new Michelin rubber, and they were superb, even in the slush. I pushed my way the first hundred Ks in the slow lane with the heavy trucks, tough to pass with snow in between the lanes, but finally found a window to get over into the fast lane.

I managed to hold it steady at 110 and made real gental lane changes to avoid fishtailing, a true sport and it keeps you awake as well...lol The car never spun out, not once. Impressive to say the least, and the mileage was under 1 liter per 10k.... anyway I made it home at 6:45. What a ride.

I once went to technical control in february early in the morning some years ago. It was snowing heavenly when I came back but drivng went well even with summer tires.
Only braking and acelerating again was a bit tricky. I tried to keep distance from other cars so that I could drive continually.
It was a great experience and proof that the SLK automatic can hold the road in fresh snow.
I hadn't had time to go through the manual when I left, it was a learn as you drive experience, and yes the automatic was perfect, it wasn't till I arrived home that I found the "winter/summer" switch on the shifter, as well as the anti spin. I suspect the trip would have been far worse if the tires were worn...not to mention the police if they saw the summer tires, it would have been an expensive fine. :surprise:
