Help with error codes

Hi David, couple of observations ..

(1) The roof won't work whilst those two lights are lit up so you can disregard that for now ..

(2) Your old car (sorry to read about that :() was a pre-facelift so there may well be compatibility issues in the parts interchangeability department ..

Which scanner you using to get these codes?

It doesn't look like a bad motor to be fair, nice mileage/bodywork etc. just needs rescuing

Finally, I'm surprised that "The roof won't work whilst those two lights are lit up". ? They would have no bearing on safety issues with the roof down? I'm still happy to be reading that, though. I was going to change over the pumps! I'll leave that for now.
Lol .. I know that, you know that .. it's the vehicles inbuilt safety protocol that kicks in and prevents you from opening the roof when the car is travelling in excess of 7mph. Typically (but not limited to), a wheel speed sensor or wire goes kaput, giving a reading of 32000 RPMs when stationary and puts both of those lights on, giving an implausible value which in turn confuses the car  = no roof for you today sir.

You may well find that getting to the bottom of the BAS/ESP lights-on issue will cure the roof at the same time (y)
It may well just be a wheel speed sensor that's setting other things off further down the line and that Front Right is the prime suspect atm but you really need a Merc specific scanner on the old girl, clear the codes and see what comes back.

I'm not entirely sure that you'd be able to swap over any of the ABS/ESP stuff from the pre-fl, I could be wrong but I thought that they were 'similar but different systems'.. would need to fire up WIS/EPC to compare ..

HTH

Gotta be someone up your way David, apart from Inchape Mercedes at Llandudno .. maybe Myk @Avel Du knows ..

Of course, there is always this to try: Page 171 owners manual ..

Synchronising ESP

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or empty), the BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp may be illuminated with the engine running.

Turn steering wheel completely to the left and then to the right. The BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp should go out.

Hi David,

This is not an advert, but since you asked ...........

I'd be happy if you want to spend a B&B trip in Dornie area, NW Scotland, I'll have the whole Car checked out properly in a couple of hours, then you can make your mind up if you want to bring it back in 1 to 3 days, (parts lead time), and I could do the repairs for you ;)

I think you could even do a ferry to Ireland and then from there to Oban which a couple hrs drive away from us.
Hmm .. a road trip, could be fun ? (y)

Throw in a few beers and use of the hot tub and everyone's a winner ?

You've done well there DAJ, even if it costs you a grand and a half total to get it right, you've still done well IMHO

I think that, compared to my damaged SLK, the steering is heavier and the ride is firmer. It seems to be a harder ride and picks up road imperfections more that the other car used to .... I do like comfort more that anything else!
Is your old one on 16"s ?
They're AMG1 17"s by the looks of them and therefore not original unless they were an optional extra, namely you've lost ½" of sidewall give, sacrificing comfort in exchange for a sportier feel and ride  .. you should try 18"s :p
