My name is Dexterln, I have a 2001 SLK 320 with 143,000 miles. Right now I am having an issue with the shifting. I noticed yesterday that while I was driving that it would kind of jerk a little bit but then it drove regularly. Now this morning it will not come out of what seems to be second gear. Also when I move the selector shift from P to R or D there is a hard jerk. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have it checked.... ATF level and condition as a start....You must change it if you do not know the history of the vehicle....It is best to do it in an MB-shop as they know those transmissions. If it is the transmission fluid, then it won't be that expensive...

yes have your transmission fluid changed as well as the engine/transmission mounts.

Your car not wanting to shift out of 2nd gear to 3rd or higher is a sign the car is in limp home mode, so it won't do more damage to the engine/transmission.
Is the check engine light on?

Cost

I just had my transmission flushed and differential changed last week at a Benz dealer in MPLs. Minnesota. Cost was dang steep I thought. 175 for the diff flush.
And 280 for the transmission flush.

My car has 110k on it. What I did notice was it shifts at a higher rpm now I wonder if the dealer reset the shifting sequence? Maybe you can do that to help too.
