Changing the breather hoses on my SLK 320 (M112 engine). Was pulling apart two hoses and put pressure on a hose attached to the engine and the hose broke. Hose has an internal plastic coupling that snapped. Need help to id the part and if there are any replacement instructions, that would be welcome.

The MAF has been removed and is marked on the photo for reference. The picture of the port itself was taken by sticking the camera next to the fire wall to the car and taking the picture. It is hard to see the port on the engine itself from the top. Notice that there are two pieces of rubber sticking out of the port. Looks like you would push those toward the middle to get the rubber to release, no luck with that so far. The third photo is where the hose originates.

Will add this to my DIY on how to replace breather hoses:(. Hope it is something that can easily be replaced. Thanks

If it's the hose with the little red arrows on in the first pic, that's not a 'breather', it's the vacuum hose for the brake servo. Hold on and I'll get you some part nos.

JaysonM- Thank you. Woolly, thank you as well. When I go to mymercedesparts.com and put in that number, I get cannot be found. Have also tried Brake Booster Vacuum with no luck as well. Any additional help locating the part on their site is appreciated.


Thanks again. As a girl DIYer I will tell you I was in tears when the part broke. I thought, the stealership wanted $1000 to do all of this. I did all of it for less than $300 in parts and tools, now I have broken something that goes to the engine and it will most likely cost more than $1000 to fix. You guys have me smiling again and willing to push forward with the next challenge.

When you enter part numbers on websites don't use letter "A" =)
Enter in the search box just numbers: "1704300529". This is applicable to most of the sites. So when searching for part numbers always remember about letters. Sometimes, MB part numbers starting as BQ 001 005 Should be entered s Q 001 005 or simply numbers: 001 005 :tu:

From the 2nd picture I can assume that you broke off the end piece, correct?!
And the end piece is stuck in there. The way these plastic hoses disconnect is that you squeeze the two tabs and simply pull on it and the fitting will come off! Be careful with them, they're expensive =)

The piece with the squeeze nipples disintegrated into a million pieces. THis is what is left. Time to tow to shop or is this something that can be removed safely?

Was your plastic hose originally attached to this yellow end piece? My assumption is that you squeeze the two tabs and the yellow piece should come out. When I broke off my vacuum hose in front of the camshaft it came with the built-in connector that snapped onto a metal fitting on the vacuum part attached to the front of the engine.

Here is the interesting part....You can order clamp, Seal ring, and the cap for $6. That is all the pieces from the aluminum intake manifold to the brake booster hose. However, I do not think those things are designed to come off of the intake manifold. Does anyone has a service manual to see if you can remove those parts from the manifold?

JaysonM- Yes, you are correct. I assume (now, that I know a little more), if I had squeezed the two tabs (part 23 on diagram) shown on the original post, and been able to insert something in to the yellow (remaining part of the broken hose, part 62), then it would have pulled out. Instead, I thought that the piece that had the two tabs on it (23), was supposed to come off and bring the yellow hose with it. Used too much pressure and the black fitting with the two tabs and more of the yellow hose inside the fittings disintegrated leaving just the interior piece (17) that moves around in a circle and the remaining yellow plastic .

Just an FYI photo of the pieces compared to the diagram above.

If I ever get this fixed it will be a very helpful DIY, since it seems to happen often (based online search) when replacing the MAF and when working in that area of the engine and there are no photos or instructions on how to fix this.

If MB has all these parts separately then it should be taken apart. That would be stupid to design intake manifold with easy-brakeable connection... If these parts are just a fraction of the cost then why not to order them as well?!
So have you managed to get this part off?

I have ordered all the parts. Total with shipping is $50. Not bad at all

I have not gotten the parts off. I was hoping someone had a workshop manual that would give some tips about how to remove the pieces and to see if anything is needed to seal the pieces back onto the engine when the replacement parts arrive (7-10 days). Do the parts twist off, pull directly out, held in by a clip that I have not noticed yet?

Since I made things worse by trying to remove the yellow part before understanding what I was really trying to accomplish, I was hoping for some additional guidelines.

Amazing to me that there is a part, which gets broken often (at least by DIYers, according to searches on the internet) and there is no mention of this part where it attaches to the engine and no information on how to replace it. I wonder how many other items are not covered in the workshop manual?:td:

If you have a part number, can you do a search in the document to look for that part number? I would be curious if those parts are even mentioned in the manual at all.

Looks like I need some additional help with the part number. It looks like the hose, Part# 1704300529, does not include the yellow part that is broken. It is just the hose. The part # I need is Part 62 on the diagram posted earlier in this thread. Can someone help id that part number?

BTW-Took a 3/8" wood screw, gently screwed it into the broken yellow cap, pulled right out without any issues.
