Having recently driven 1600 miles in 3 days in my 1998 Mazda MX5 I decided time for a little luxury.

I found a 2006 350 SLK dark blue with 48K miles for an acceptable price.

1, Centre Console Armrest loose. broken. Replaced - not enough room to swing a cat.
2. No Bluetooth Purchased
3. Rusty Brake Disks Tried unsuccessfully to remove the disks (rotors ) - future job. Function ok.
4. Engine Coolant Undertemp. Changed the Thermostat with a second hand one - same problem - new one. Now OK.
5. Car Seat Heater Underthebum Inop. Future Project.
6. Headlights too dim. Replaced the Halogen bulbs - a bit disappointed they are not Xenon, but what the heck. Now acceptable.

So as you can see I have not been bored. I am a little concerned about the sprocket wear and the balance cam issue - but hopefully by the time it comes around I will be ready for it and not during the Winter months.

Lovely comfortable car which is the reason I bought it. Cruise Control and enough power in reserve and more.
I am looking forward to driving with the roof down - In the mazda the rule was - no rain , roof down, but with the thermostat issue I didn't trust the heater in the SLK.

I still have the Mazda on the drive as it has been the most reliable car I ever had. It is now standby in case........

So that's the Keithyrob story so far. The forum has been useful and entertaining, if sometimes a bit worrying, but I have come to the conclusion that people only write about the bad stuff and otherwise they are busy enjoying the good stuff.

Welcome from the Wirral.

There's a link in my signature for R171 diy.

You're right about it looking grim when you see all the issues listed.
But it is as you say. We come here for fixes and usually find them.

Not sure where you are in the UK but check out last years calendar.
It gives a good idea of what goes on.
The list grows rapidly as spring approaches.

If your in the SW there is a meet in March at Cotswold Airfield:

Scotland and April is looking good. Although a break folk are welcome on the entire trip, a drive or just a meal:

Kent, The Midlands and Cheshire all have meets, but you'll have to keep your eyes open.

Three photos in a reply to this thread:
and you've entered the RoTM comp for free!

Hope the issues all solve soon.
Not long to spring and open top driving.
Try a top down night drive.
The car heats well and the drive is very enjoyable.

Hi and welcome to from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us and posting an intro! :)

We have quite a few members in the UK that like to meet up from time to time, although things tend to be a little quieter during the winter months. If you're interested in joining us sometime, just keep an eye on the UK Region section, as we post meeting plans there! :tu:

There is a summary post that I maintain for our UK meets ( here ). Links to examples and pictures from last year's meets are available here. We're a friendly group, and always happy to welcome new members at any of our meets.

Finally, we also recently started plotting where our UK members are - check out the thread for that here: SLKWorld UK & Ireland Members and Meeting Points Map

Thank you

Get yer roof down! You might be surprised how cosy it is with seats and airscarf on, windows up. Showers blow right over you (mostly) at anything above 30 mph and if you get a Smarttop module you can raise your roof on the fly at up to 30mph...
