Hi guys! I just got my dream car - SLK350 in silver/black. Really excited about the experiences I'm going to have driving my beautiful Benz and also glad to have found a community of like minded people with whom to converse

I live in Northumberland, UK, where we have some truly beautiful driving roads, worthy of the car. I've already done 500 miles (since Sunday) just exploring them in the new ride, getting a feel for how she handles, seeing my home county anew with the top down and the wind blowing my hair. I'm fairly young, and I come from a working class background - council estate, single mother - but I've worked very hard to leverage my natural talents and I obtained a tenured faculty position at a good University in Engineering Mathematics a few years ago before I turned thirty. I'm still unable to fully absorb that I actually own the car and can drive it at will, but I am blown away by what I've experienced so far, the dual character displayed. The effortless serenity around town and in casual driving balanced by a truly ferocious intensity when called upon, whether in refined comfort with the top up or in glorious full-HD cacophony without it. It's a privilege and an honour to me to have custody of this marvel of engineered passion, and likewise to hopefully be accepted as a member of this forum

Thanks for having me!

-M.

Hi, welcome from Barrhead, Scotland.

One of our mods will be along shortly to "officially" welcome you but in the mean time here are some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:

If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.

If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.

Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.

Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.

New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.

Thank you all!

Hi all! Many thanks for the warm welcome.

I am pleased to note the admirable transatlantic diversity in this space! I'm half American - father was from Texas and a lot of my family still live in the Houston vicinity - and I got my first taste of open topped motoring driving a 430i rental 5500 miles in 8 days on a Kerouac-inspired road trip. I drove from Atlanta, GA to Eureka Springs in the Arkansas Ozarks in one stint with the top down, stayed a few days in that heaven sent corner of the earth, proceeded across the Great Plains to Denver after a couple of nights, enjoyed the mountain air in the Colorado Rockies - I can see why the call Ouray the Switzerland of America - then drove 1400 miles without stopping except for fuel and refreshment to visit my family in Huntsville, TX. Took my sister to New Orleans for a few days, dropped her off back in Texas, then made my way back to Atlanta via Jackson and Pensacola. Trip of a lifetime! I doubled the 430i's mileage in a week!! They are fine driving cars and pleasant places to be, and the option of four seats was tempting, but once I'd experienced the 350's NA V6 and the comfort and quality which accompany the amazing dynamics she delivers there was only one car I was interested in.

Thanks again for the kindness and the good advice, which I shall be sure to heed. Peace and transatlantic love 0:)

P.S. I chose my car on condition and mileage, and I really feel I have a beautiful, immaculate example to be proud of. People who say these cars don't handle obviously haven't driven one, or confuse aggressive gear changes and crashy rides for good dynamics! However, she is a little short on the options list - specifically, no heated seats / AirScarf. I've used the search function and there is good information to be had for sure, but if anyone has any personal experience with a retrofit of these options - which I am aware is no joke - then I'd be very interested to talk further!

Although info is scarce for these on the 172, check out the 171 diys.
If no-one gets back to you, those diys could make a great starting point.

Not sure if you will need to get codes updated to activate them though.

Maybe @i860 or @VII7 could clue you in on that part.
