Well, I thought I'd lost all interest in cars.
Had a Lotus Europa JPS when I was 22 but that's well into the mists of time for sure. (( So is the car.. rolled it 4 times onto a beach and walked away without a scratch.. which means I've used up all my luck for this life and I'll never win the lottery :burnout:))
Then I went through a multiple Ford XR3 phase until teenage neds started showing up in them everywhere... car finance should be outlawed.
Bought a Rover 220 Turbo Coupe in 1993 ( greatest looking crappiest car ever ) and sold that in almost new condition last year -- this explains my total loss of interest in things automobile.

Until,,,,
out for a Sunday afternoon stroll with a pal this last January and walked past the local car showroom... WOW... there's a smart car !! What is it??? Mercedes Eh ?? Went back on Monday morning... 9,000 miles... OK I'll buy it. ((It helps when you have gone to school with the garage owner -- trust is automatic ... my biggest concern 'Is it a hairdresser's car?' :biglaugh: ))

So from January zero till today... I totally love the car... it is brilliant.. YAY..
2005 SLK 200K in showroom condition... (now at 10,000 miles)
My only trouble is that I have started to learn what the SLKs are about. I wish wish wish I'd held off and bought one of the bigger engine models.. likely the 350.. BUT, no worries mate, the car is my love of the moment and certainly powerful enough for our congested and camera burdened roads anyway.

Meanwhile today, I got it out of the garage for the first time since July -- and it rattled :( ..... ( I work in the :usa: yah see )

Sounds like the boot (trunk) lid is open. Nopes not that.. HMmmm.. Seat loose ?? Nopes... Spare wheel and tools.. Nopes again... Mega HMMmmm ????..

After half an hour and coming back from the supermarket --- Clang bonk bonk.. what is that ??
Something chunky and metalic fell off the bottom of the car. Stopped and searched all over the place but could not find whatever it was as the road verges are dense undergrowth etc.

At least the rattle has gone and the car is back to it's superb self once more although a bit lighter...
Hope to get it onto a car lift in the morning and see what's gone wrong... I hope the bank balance is not in for a battering... Ah Well -- fingers crossed...

Welcome to the forum SLK-Smile. Grats on the new car, I'm sure she's a beaut. Try checking the passenger seatbelt, as sometimes that clangs against the door.

And unless Gabus is in Vegas, he should be able to help you out lots more.

Welcome man! I have a similar noise. I think it has something to do with the hinges that open the trunk, in my case.

Have no idea with a Ford XR3 is, or a Ned for that matter!

Yeah bigger engines are nice, but you can enjoy an SLK with a smaller engine too. You get better gas mileage! Besides, this gives you a good excuse to wait for the Bi-Turbo V8 AMG model!

No, it is not the trunk. The noise has gone. Have had the bottom of the car inspected and apparently nothing has broken or is missing so it is a mystery for the present. Whatever it was, it made quite a clang when it fell off !!!

Neds are teenage pain in the butt boys usually with bad haircuts and goof off attitude problems... British stuff.. hahahaha
R)
Ford XR3s were a series of go faster 3 door saloons based on the Ford Escort... So named 'Hot Hatches' became very popular in the 1980s and some makes were top class, the Volkswagen Golf being almost Iconic. :burnout:
