Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.

The UK has an active meet scene.
Here is a taste of what is coming up and a couple of links to past events to whet your appetite:

Two tips:
Drive pre and post facelift models for both 350 and 55.
Aside from the difference in driving, some prefer one model's seat over the other.
IF you are not doing your own maint. be ware, the 55 has higher service charges.
Especially the early 6 post barakes (down to 4 later in run).

Happy hunting.

Hi and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us and posting an intro! :)

We have quite a few members in the UK that like to meet up from time to time. If you're interested in joining us sometime, just keep an eye on the UK Region section, as we post meeting plans there!

There is a summary post that I maintain for our UK meets here. Links to examples and pictures from last year's meets are available here. We're a friendly group, and always happy to welcome new members at any of our meets.

We're also plotting where our UK members are - check out the thread for that here: SLKWorld UK & Ireland Members and Meeting Points Map - Please let me know if you'd like to be added to the map. :tu:

Thank you

Thanks for the links to all the info and the welcome! Narrowed things down to a pre-FL 55 or a FL 350. I have a feeling if I got a 350 I would always wish I had waited and got a 55. Have never owned a V8 before, everyone should do it once right? Don't mind turning my hand to most jobs so not scared of a bit of DIY.

Oh and I was aware of the 6 pot brake disc costs. Just crazy!

There are several workarounds -and believe me, they are worth it! If they are not nearly new on your intended, hit the seller with a quote from MBUK as a negotiating tool. ;)

Welcome from Northamptonshire @djtuffer .

This a great friendly site.

Make sure you check out the UK Members Location Map, and the UK Members Meet calendar - both of which are linked to above.

These are very useful to show you where we are and where we will be.

welcome.

As mentioned previously the brakes used to be eye watering. Now they are merely expensive - but they are very, very good! IMO the essential extra is: heated seats (IIRC most should have this) but a lovely extra which you don't think about (if you've not looked at an SLK before) is 'airscarf'. The plexi-Merc wind-protector is expensive if not with the car but anyone with long hair will appreciate it!

As an aside (and just to cause trouble! >:D) blue is the best colour hands down
