Hello everybody from Cape Town in South Africa. I own a 2002 SLK32 AMG. I am a car enthusiast and spare time car restorer and builder. My SLK is almost finished being converted into a thunderous fast aluminium bodied classic gullwing! Will post photos when I have worked out how to do it.

Cheers
Kevin

I will start the saga. A few years ago I wanted to build a Ferrari Testarossa Replica using a Cobra chassis. I designed and built a bodybuck and made the body out of fibre glass. Photos of the build got around and I have since made quite a few bucks which have gone to guys who are very clever sheet aluminium fabricators to hand make one off unobtainable famous cars. I enjoy making them and make a few $$ in my spare time. I don't think there are to many people making these kind of bucks as I have had calls from all over the place. I have made different Ferrari, Maserati and Mercedes bucks. Attached is the buck I made for a bloke having a Mercedes SLR 300 as raced by Stirling Moss in the Mille Miglia.

Ok so back to the SLK. About a year ago I decided I wanted to have my own Gullwing made. I would make the body buck and then have the car professionally built with the body made out of Aluminium. I discovered the SLK had the same wheelbase and power I wanted etc. I didn't want to mess at all with the chassis just re-body. All suspension, chassis, aircon, airbags the same. Especially as the performance would be great being about 400kg lighter >:D than the standard car. Here is a photo of the Gullwing buck.

I found a guy here in Cape Town that builds stunning one off cars and he started to build the Gullwing for me. I bought the SLK and boy I really enjoyed driving it. It took a lot of soul searching for me to hand over the SLK to get the chop at the car builders place. Here is some photos of the body at the time.
