Just purchased my 2007 SLK280 and LOVE it. Havn't driven my 2014 fusion in a week. Interested in getting tips on maintenance and upkeep for my vehicle. I had it run through the shop with a clean bill of health, but I want to keep it running beautifully/ show it a little more love than the last owner.

Any advice on keeping the convertible top well maintained?

Also having issues with center console (thats how I found this site). One of the spring loaded tabs in the back of the console is broken in half. Probably going to rig something myself to make do, unless somebody has better advice.

Also am considering a couple MINOR accessories to give it a face lift ( the car shows some wear from previous owner) and would love any ideas for tasteful appearance improvements.

Cant wait for the weekend to go for a drive!

Thanks guys!

Welcome from another 280 owner in Hillsboro, Oregon! Does yours have the One True Transmission like mine, a six-speed manual?

Welcome from Bonifay, FL.

I'm from Huntingdon, PA, near State College. I don't miss the Winter's in PA, I liked Autumn the Best in PA.

Greetings from Tennessee !

They are wonderful cars, aren't they.

Plenty of great little mods to help your car. The chromed amber bulbs all around are pretty easy, as are the clear side markers. The SmartTop is the best mod there is, but it's a little pricey. LED's are intoxicating, but you may not be able to stop once you get started. An AMG rear spoiler will run you about $100 and it greatly improves the look of the car IMHO.

Regular maintenance is easy if you do your homework on the site. Oil changes, spark plugs, brake pads & rotors, air filters, most fluids are definitely DIY'able. Parts aren't that expensive, it's the labor at the dealership that'll break the bank. That said, there are a lot of jobs that I'm not comfortable with, like transmission work, shocks, etc. that I use the dealer for. Plus if you spend $200 or so there you get free roadside assistance.

The spring tab you're talking about... does your console lid open left, right and up?

Welcome from Ottawa Canada.
Der Flieger,

Yes it does open left, right, and up. The tab is in the back of the console and I think is what allows it to rock from one side to the other (there is a matching one on the other side.

Thoughts?

Let me look and see if I can find the right thread...or the foto of my wounded lid. I believe you may be talking about the curved "wing" that helps lift/balance the lid when it opens to the side. I have a new one, and have yet to install it.

Does yours function normally otherwise (buttons operate smoothly etc, opens the other way normally)?

I considered fashioning a tab/wing replacement (a prosthetic if you will) out of aluminium (which you can get at most home reno stores) and bonding it to the half still there. However, in my case the buttons are partially depressed (jammed in) as well.
