Hi everyone! Just joined and keen to connect with Floridian SLK owners. Especially keen to find out who the best mechanics are in the Winter Garden area in Orlando. And if there are any car wreckers for parts you would recommend. And any other general info about living with an SLK in the Florida heat.

I do not own an SLK55 yet but am looking for an R171 (or 2) that has that V8 under the bonnet. The wife wants a "project" car with two doors. This seems like a good option. Looking to get a Floridian registered car. And also wondering if extended warranties are worth it and which would be best provider.

My wife is small at 4ft 11 so hoping this will not be a problem. I am 6ft and hoping that will also not be a problem

Hi and welcome from St Augustine FL..have fun and enjoy the ride (when you get it)...btw, I'm 6'3" and 210 lbs and have no issues with the anthropometry...my wife is 5'6"...no problems...we've driven from here to Philadelphia and back...I'll admit to a certain amount of stiffness but should have taken more frequent breaks...after all were in our 60's

Are you looking for a really rough one? It sounds like you want a project. Probably won't find too many rough 55's around. Most people take pretty good care of them and the engine is pretty bullet proof. Tranny is pretty good too, but could potentially find one with a blown trans. What are your plans?

Most people take pretty good care of them and the engine is pretty bullet proof. Tranny is pretty good too, but could potentially find one with a blown trans. What are your plans?

Well my definition of project is - buy car, polish, and drive! I like the idea of fitting that SoftTop mod myself but I don't have the time to do major mechanicals or the tools and space to do it. Plus the car will need to be drivable so the wife can use it. Any changes / repairs need to be done over a weekend. So I'll pay market price for a good car. And then replace anything that looks worn out. I know extended warranties cover up to 100K and cost about $3000. Are they worth it on a car that going to cost me around 12-15K?
