Living in Robin Hood county and loving it!

Bought the 350 SLK to replace an Alfa V6 Spider (916 type) which we owned from new until it went slightly bang and died at 154,000 miles. We still have a lovely Alfa 159 Sportwagon with the 1750 Tbi engine, which is a bit special.

You're likely to find me boring someone about tyres, oil and Shell V Power.

Loving the SLK so far, and have been lurking here since we got it, you seem a nice bunch.

Hi Alf, and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us! :)

Where are you based in Nottinghamshire? I was born in Notts and I'm originally from the Worksop/Retford area, and we have lots of other members around Notts and the rest of the Midlands too.

As Myk (Avel Du) has already mentioned, we're quite active with meets in the Midlands, and you're more than welcome to come along to any (or all) meets. Myk has already shared the link to the meet calendar, which I keep updated as other meets get proposed or arranged. Please keep an eye on the UK Region section if you're interested in joining us. :tu:

I too went from a 916 V6 GTV, owned from new (not the spider) to the SLK - they're chalk and cheese!!

Alfa to SLK...

Hi, and another welcome from Nottingham

I too went from a 916 V6 GTV, owned from new (not the spider) to the SLK - they're chalk and cheese!!
First, thanks to all for the welcomes.

Sean - I wonder what differences you noticed? I must be honest here and say that both the Spider and its SLK replacement belong(ed) to my wife. That's not to say we don't share and I drove many spider miles and am getting quite a few flying hours in the SLK.

For me the main difference is going to an automatic box and the slightly slower take off of the SLK engine (the Busso engine is an extraordinary bit of engineering that belies the fact that it has 24 valves all going up and down on one chain! The rear wheel drive is also a new experience (well, since I got rid of my 14 year old Vauxhall Viva in 1984), although I've yet to properly get it to step out. As I get more confident in the SLK I'll doubtless appreciate it more, I can tell there's a huge amount of welly in there. The SLK is more refined, better screwed together and a smoother ride. The Alfa was bags of fun, and felt like it was on rails.
