Hello! I recently joined this website after lurking for about three to four months. During that time I was considering buying a '98 SLK 230. Guess what. I bought the car. :)
Unfortunately, I'm having some issues with it. Yes, I know, search the forum before you post. I did, but found some troubling results. I am new to fixing up my own cars (this is also my first car ha ha) so please bear with me. The car needs to get inspected and some of the problems that I'm having with that is that it needs to get the check engine light turned off. The code that I'm receiving is P0170. From my knowledge, this means that there's some sort of problem with the MAF, the PCV hoses, or the air oil separator. What I've done so far is clean the MAF, but the light came back on. As for the other two options I haven't done them yet due to not knowing if I'm going about this the correct way. What do you guys think?

What exit? :D

If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable or to ‘edit’, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members as we welcomed you to obtain your needed posts to PM/edit. You can always pm a moderator.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment or use the 'quote' button so we know who you are asking or replying to or referencing.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
FREE!! Post your vin in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on your car). You must update your profile with vehicle info and your location and post an introduction first.

Either you have a huge air leak or a dirty MAF. Try cleaning it, clear the code, and see if it comes back.

Hello there! I wasn't clear (or cohearent) when I made this post. The only thing that I have done so far is clean the MAF. I should've listed that in my post. I apologize for that. Something that I may try either today or soon is to replace the MAF itself. Hopefully that'll solve the problem ha ha. If it doesn't I guess I'll have to figure out where that air leak is coming from.

P.S. You all sure know how to make someone feel welcomed :))
Thank you so much everyone!
