Afternoon all

I've just picked up my first SLK this afternoon, a black 2009 R171 350. It's only 2C here this afternoon so I'll have to wait for another day for my go at drop-top motoring... :D

The car has a reasonable spec - airscarf, nav, logic7/harmon kardon, linguatronic - but I'd like to add a smarttop, DAB, the glass wind deflector and perhaps also the cupholders and also the 12v socket/ashtray assembly in the centre console, just to make it easier to charge my phone.

I actually only bought the car with one specific trip in mind, which is down through France, over the French Alps to the Cote d'Azur. Done this trip many times on a motorcycle but never in a car, so this will be a first for me. Looking forward to it.

Anyway - hello to everyone, this is a great resource you have here.

Cheers
Jimmy

Congratulations and welcome, you've picked a great car for a great trip.

One thing, you don't actually own this car until we all see pictures

Hi Jimmy, and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us and posting an intro! :)

You have airscarf - as soon as we get some clear skies (whatever the temperature) turn up the heating, switch on the airscarf and get that roof down... it can feel quite liberating! :tu:

We have quite a few members in the UK that like to meet up from time to time. If you're interested in joining us sometime (there's a meeting in Kent on Sunday 11 June), just keep an eye on the UK Region section, as we post meeting plans there! :tu:

There is a summary post that I maintain for our UK meets ( here ). Links to examples and pictures from last year's meets are available here. We're a friendly group, and always happy to welcome new members at any of our meets.

Finally, we also recently started plotting where our UK members are - check out the thread for that here: SLKWorld UK & Ireland Members and Meeting Points Map

Thank you

+2oC !!!!!!!!! AND you've got the scarf!!! My gawd man, that's perfect weather (as long as there's no rain).

Top down, windows up (cuts down on drafts), scarf on full, heater on full, wear a beanie, toque, hat, your choice and GO FOR IT!!!

That's why you got the 'vert, so you could go cruisin' topless.

Oh, by the way:

Welcome from Canada Jimmy

Welcome from Wirral, England.

We have a free to enter monthly competition.
Entry is open from the 1st to the 15th of every month. You simply post a reply with 3 photos.
After the 15th we usually open a poll for members to vote on their favourite.
Here's the main thread:

This month's entries:

One thing that should reassure your choice of car for the trip:
Roughly half them members on here are/were bikers.
So looking good.

There's a R171 diy thread in my signature below. Worth tagging for the trip ;)

The UK is pretty good for SLKs. Here's a taste of upcoming and a few previous events:
http://www.slkworld.com/united-kingdom-region/411649-2017-new-uk-members-spring-edition.html

Be worth going to one as other members have done the same/similar route to your trip.
If you search you will find some write ups. Maybe even a few ideas.

Just let the sun come out, pop on a beanie and a fleece and Top Down!! You know it makes sense.

You'll be smiling from ear to ear while everyone else is huddled in their cars. Truly worth it. We've done it in Silkie many a time with the temperature under 3° C and we don't have airscarf. (we do have a splendid heater and heated seats though)

Oh - and welcome to the forum, Jimmy, from just up the A23 in Surrey.

Thanks for all the welcomes.

That's an interesting statistic; I'm still riding bikes, in fact here in Brighton the traffic and parking is so bad a bike is really the only way to get into or across town during the day.

...

Well, I've had my car a whole afternoon and evening now, and I've found a limitation I wasn't aware of: no media interface or dab tuner. This might be expensive to resolve... :D

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I note you say that you'd like to fit the cup holder in the console. Read a few of the posts about drinks destroying owners very expensive audio equipment and I think you'll change your mind!!
Not one of MBs best ideas, putting drinks above the stereo. That's why they changed it to a completely useless, but safe, storage pocket
