R170s only had V6 engines from factory.
The only oem V8 is the 55 series.

Now, kettle on, butty's at ready? This link will interest:
(Dave's V8 Build Thread)
Very true although Brabus if I'm right made 5 6.3 versions of the R170 not technically OEM馃槀 but still a quality factory job but it is wedged in there.

Earliest V8 is the SLK 32 AMG for R170 (2001-04) V6
The only oem V8 is the 55 series.

A bit late to the party, but yep, as said ............

SLK 32 R170 is a V6 ;)

SLK 55 is an R171 ;)

MB never made a V8 R170 Version, Brabus did 5 very rare R170's with V8 but with the earlier Mercedes V8 Engine M119 IIRC ??? ;)

I鈥檝e a few years experience in the body repair world hence being ok with a model that鈥檚 maybe a bit tatty which I know normally isn鈥檛 a good sign, because of the bodywork isn鈥檛 good,
You might want to take a look at this ........

In particular my posts #'s 4, 7 & 9 ....................

I would recommend anyone buying an R170 to pull out a few rubber grommets in the areas and insert a cheap endoscope illuminated USB Camera if the owner will allow you to, he shouldn't have an issue with you inspecting the car thoroughly if he's nothing to hide ;)

I have a feeling this issue is more prevalent than we all think, and will only get worse the older these cars get, more so on UK / wet climate cars ;)

Hey Chalky, a massive welcome to the forum mate. Easily the best bang for your buck, you can鈥檛 go wrong with an SLK as long as it鈥檚 been looked after. Above all else, check the service history to make sure it鈥檚 been loved. A good one will give you years of open top pleasure but a bad one could be a money pit. Most I鈥檝e come across have been cared for but don鈥檛 be fooled by your heart. Make sure you take your time and don鈥檛 fall in love with the first one you see. I looked at 6 before I bought mine and for a 2008 it drives and feels like it鈥檚 brand new. Patience my friend.
