Hello all ,Joined recently with a view to getting into the slk owners scene ,currently driving an Audi TT ,previously MR2,so it will be different

Is there a UK for sale section at all ? loads of for sale on eBay and the like, but most look a little tatty in my price range ,not expecting too much though just want something to use, and make better as i go along ,

Going to be doing some searching on here, but whats the difference in the model numbers the R170,R172 for example are they just different revisions by year ?

thanks for reading

Hi Trev, welcome from Barrhead, Scotland.

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any post you like. This saves you having to comment.
New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link next to the 'Search' link top right of the info bar is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.

Hi,

No, there isn't a UK for sale section, but there are a LOT of UK owners and if you're on the TT forums it's a lot friendlier over here.

If you think of R170 as the Mk I TT 8N designation, R171 is like 8J on the Mk II TT and R172 is the latest 8S model.

R170 is the original, very feminine one (except the AMG one which is very manly), R171 is the one with the F1 car nose and R172 is the one that looks like the front was first designed in the 1960's.

Depending on what you want you can get a really nice R170 for under £5000, there are still R171s at Merc dealers for £19,000 and R172s start about £15,000.
Welcome from North Hampshire :tu:
Good luck in Your search - May be a good time of year to pick up a bargin...
Trev'
Hiya

Welcome aboard! I was in your position a few months back and lurked here for a bit before buying. You'll learn a lot!! I set up searches in Autotrader & Pistonheads as that's where I found the better cars. Don't rush. Set your options, do your research (especially on here) and go test-drive a few. You'll soon get a feel for what to look for - and you'll be more confident when you look at possible candidates when it's time to buy. Mind you - when you find one you want you'll have to act quick!! Good ones will go fast.

They do say buying a convertible is best done at this time of year, but I'm not sure that entirely applies to a metal-topped convertible such as the SLK.

Good luck - and looking forward to seeing what you end up with!

Enjoy!

You might find that list handy for when you go to view the car.

So you bought one?
then Congrats!

and don't start that girly/hairdresser stuff:

So you bought one?
then Congrats!
but now you have to update your profile info, model n year

First please update your and vehicle (year?: 1996-2016, model?: 32, 200, 230, 250, 280, 300,320,350,55) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t. This takes about 30 seconds to do.
Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Hi Trev, and welcome from the UK Midlands! :)

Where are you in Leicestershire (I'm in Leicester Forest East, near Leicester)?

The car you've bought looks great in the pics you've shared... I hope you enjoy it when you collect it (today?).

We have quite a lot of members based around the UK Midlands, and we get together from time to time, often involving a cooked breakfast somewhere. If you're interested in joining us, meeting other members and chatting about all things to do with cars please just keep an eye on the UK Region section as we post our plans to meet there. :D
