Being a relatively new owner of an SLK, I'm curious about the heater (blower) system....I usually leave it at a constant 20-22 degree setting..however this never seems enough...the air coming from the vents is definitely not the selected temperature...slightly warm at best.

The only way to get heat is to turn both temp selectors to max..then the heat builds up..but once reselected to any other temp the heat appears to drop off...is this normal for the SLK?

I would have thought with a convertible the heating system would have been more powerful than most other cars..

Having previously owned an Audi TT, where once the temp was set then that was it...no alterations required..

Any help or sugestions...

Thanks

Do you have the analog or digital climate control? Was the engine at operating temperature? Was the roof retracted? What was the ambient temperature?

My prior US spec model year 2006 SLK280, with the analog climate control, heats pretty well when I set it at 76F while the ambient temperature was 60F with the roof retracted and the main windows up.

Etyu,

My SLK is the analogue type, and the conditions are as you described...windows up, top down and engine at normal operating temperature, as for the ambient I have no way of knowing...the temp selectors have to be constantly increased to provide heat...

Cheers

:confused:I would suggest you check the heating system with the top up, windows closed to determine if it's working correctly.

Isn't there a display for the outside/ambient temperature? The selector doesn't have to be constantly increased to provide heat, the heat provided was consistent and comfortable.

What Dan said - the car changes the heating and cooling profiles depending on ambient temperature, top up/down, and I believe "windows up/down" as well....

(FYI, same for AirScarf...)

Thanks everyone....just to clarify these points, I have tested the heating using all possible configurations..windows up/down...roof up/down..etc....there is also no readout of the ambient (my model is analogue...2006) and the temp is not consistent...
From my previous cars a setting 22 degrees (roof down, windows up & driving) was comfortable in a shirt..in the SLK it has to be increased to the Max..28 I believe, or wear a jumper... :(

External temp is on the dash, internal temp can be measured at home with a digi thermometer, put it by the climate control module because that is where it senses the temp.
