As you probably know, the heated steering wheel function is not offered with the AMG version of the SLKs (up until '08 at least). It's not that I am interested in this particular option, but I am curious to find out the rationale behind that exclusion. Does this have anything to do with the paddle shifters? I am also wondering if owners of cars with the AMG package could opt for a heated steering wheel.
I suspect it could be only a "perception" and marketing issue. For example, I had an E46 M3 before with the so-called Competition Package, that the manufacturer wanted to market as a track-focused car. So, for this one cruise control was not an option.

All I can say is that I hope they did a better job designing reliability and longevity into the heated Steering Wheel than they did on the R171 heated seats !

I ain't sayin', I'm just sayin'.
