Try checking the fuse. Is this the R171?

yes, an R171....when I push the button, all 3 lights illuminate for about 3 seconds and then all go off.

Same exact thing happened to me and it was cause I blew the fuse. I took it into the MB dealership and they diagnose it simply as that. Double check your fuses before you take it in. Million bucks that will make it work again!

Good luck.

Lets hope it doesn't happen out of warranty.
I wouldn't hold my breath. The good thing is that since it's so common, people will figure out how to replace them in a DIY. I've already seen something fly by on mbslk.de. Allegedly someone even managed to avoid buying a replacement heating pad by resoldering the old one.
