Hello,
I just got a SLK350. The head unit has a buttons for gps but when pressed it state gps not available. I ran Vin # which states there is no gps.
QUESTION
Can I exchange my current the OEM head unit with an OEM head unit from a 06,07,08,09,that has gps & blue tooth from a 06,07, or 08 vehicle & install into the 05 car.

Will it work in the 05 & will the steering wheel controls work. Has anyone experimented with this type of head unit upgrade

Morning

Yep - you're looking for the NTG 2.5 headunit which has NAV and bluetooth integrated into it (you don't say exactly what you currently have though - Audio 20, CD Changer, ??)

Post some pics of your current headunit (or let us know what it is).

The steering wheel controls will still work - a few have done this swap, but you may need a main delaer or indy to do some coding work for you ...

Have a search - you'll find a few threads about this ..... there are also plenty of easy aftermarket options too ... search for S100 or S150 headunit ....

Thanks for the information. I just purchased the vehicle. I'm not sure what unit is in there. It does have a nav button on the left side. When the button is pushed it indicates nav not available. Vehicle VIN # WDBWK56F35F077719, I decoded it but I didn't see where the HU is listed in that information. I heard That swapping HU does not work all the time but I thought that some members may have done it in the past. I know someone that has a nav unit available from 2008 slk for $450 & I wanted to see if a swap would work before I buy the unit.

Hello Guys:

Well been doing a lot of research on SLK's, however being new to Mercedes Benz vehicles there is a lot to learn. I know there is going to be a big learning curve and some confusion.

I want to thank you for the DATA Card info that was sent to me. It seems this vehicle has the Comand Head Unit but no Navigation or Bluetooth.

Is a different head unit necessary or is my current head unit good because there are buttons for the NAV. Is the vehicle just missing NAV & Bluetooth components in the truck area that needs to be added w/ antennas & then configured? I did search but I haven't been able to find the correct info for my vehicle in this regard.

I'd like to keep MB equipment & not go aftermarket. Any assistance is appreciated.

The Vehicle has the Comand-APS NTG1 Head Unit. Am I assuming that all I need is a NAV/ DVD for the NAV system to engage? Does this Unit have Bluetooth or do I have to add the Bluetooth adapter?

‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘vehicle’

i had to take -5 points for your continued spelling of Comand...Command. only 1 'm' :D

Well, it's not that easy.
In your car there is an optical ring connecting all audio/nav devices. This is controlled by something called the Audio GateWay (AGW) If you install an NAV drive in the booi you need to connect this to the ring and configure thet AGW so that it knows there is now a NAV drive present. You need STAR for this.
And no, there is no bluetooth, you can connect a bluetooth puck to it but you need to have optiob code 386. If you have that there is a UHI connector in the middel storage compartiment between to 2 seats.
For more info have a look here http://www.billsden.org/fileadmin/media/mercedes/slk/docs/train_audio_comm.pdf and here http://www.billsden.org/fileadmin/media/mercedes/slk/docs/proc_p_i_82_85_431.pdf

It's easier just to fit the NTG 2.5 from the later SLK's ...

Otherwise you'll need the NAV drive, Changer, MOST ring and the fibre optic cabling to connect it all up plus the UMI interface and a bluetooth puck, not to mention a bit of coding to get it all talking to the car ...

All you'll need is an additional GPS antenna and a microphone for the phone (plus the NTG 2.5 headunit) - maybe a wiring adapter too, but not 100% sure ...

AND it's a genuine MB part as fitted to SLK's ...
