Assuming the other driver wasn't being stupid, texting etc, it may be that the high vis gear caught his eye.
You tend to steer where you are looking.
Not an excuse, proper obs is the way to go, but possible explanation.

To me it seemed that the hazard warning lights were flashing...so the other drivers were aware of an incident... and it did seem as if they reacted appropriately... all except the DAF driver, (who should be severely dealt with in my opinion).

No., I'm not being badtempered.. we lost a dear friend, who was killed at a road junction, by a lorry driver who was not paying attention...still hurts :crying:
