Hi there,

I'm currently trying to recommission my GF's black 2000 R170 200 Kompressor - she has just started driving again after 10 years and deserves something fun but not too fast. I'm looking forward to being driven to and from the pub!

I've got a long list of tasks to get the car ready for the summer but I'm working hard through them. Mechanically, the car is in really good condition and even the ubiquitous rust is a lot better than other cars - some cosmetic repair is required but the arches are fine.

Unfortunately, the car is having some electrical problems right now so the attached picture is the car waiting at the electrician. We had to change the alternator recently but that has triggered a lot of other faults that I've got an electrician working through - central locking, indicators, door windows, wipers, cooling fan and roof. It isn't clear what is causing the problem but I'm working through all the helpful information here to try and find out!

Hopefully we'll get the car back on the road soon and join you all in some drop top motoring!

Cheers
Ben

Welcome from Surrey, more than likely if you have lots of electrical issues at the same time, it could be the bcu, but I'm no expert so don't take my word for it.

Another option could be a dodgy earth.

Another welcome from Surrey.

Work through the problems one by one - we'll be here to help. There's lots of knowledge on here for electrical gremlins on the SLK.

Thanks Lersy, that's what the electrician was thinking as well. We've got a few more things to exclude but we may well be looking at having to repair or replace the BCU. I'm hoping we can avoid the last resort of ordering a replacement from MB as I got a quote of £1200 (inc. VAT). Best Ben

Welcome from just up the road!
As others have said, search the forum and you'll find the answer... you won't be the first person to have had the problem.
I'm no R170 expert but the K40 fuse comes to mind, try searching on that and there's some info on a DIY repair.
Also, always check you have a good, well charged, battery.
If you get stuck, raise a new question and it's normally answered within minutes.
Good luck.

Hi Ben, and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us and posting an intro! :)

We have quite a few members in the UK that like to meet up from time to time. If you're interested in joining us sometime, just keep an eye on the UK Region section, as we post meeting plans there!

There is a summary post that I maintain for our UK meets here. Links to examples and pictures from last year's meets are available here. We're a friendly group, and always happy to welcome new members at any of our meets.

We're also plotting where our UK members are - check out the thread for that here: SLKWorld UK & Ireland Members and Meeting Points Map - Please let me know if you'd like to be added to the map. :tu:

Thank you
