Hello from Tuscaloosa, AL, where clean-up efforts after big tornado are really cranked up now. People have come in from all over to help. Personally I was very lucky - tornadoes went to north of us and south of us, while we sat in shelter and watched it live on TV; having survived several similar storms, I knew exactly what it was doing.

Joined SLK World to get some advice on mt '06 SLK 208 - electrical problem in trunk that, at first, made the trunk light erratic; after I repositioned the wiring harness a bit, this problem went away, but now the trunk won't electrically unlock - you have to use the key. I opened electrical panel on trunk lid, and don't find any unseated connectors or loose wires. I will see if I can find an electrical section of the forum to post something about this.

Welcome from southern California.

Sounds suspicious of a fracture somewhere in the wiring harness. IIRC a couple of members had something similar.

Welcome. Glad you're safe.

Have you ever went on a tour of the Mercedes plant there in your hometown? I'd love to visit it one day.

I used to work for MB

Thanks to all the well-wishers; someone asked if I ever toured the Mercedes plant here; actually I worked there for 15 years, in the computer department. About a year and a half ago I retired from there and now joined the computer science department of the University of Alabama, where I manage a project to develop software for US Department of Transportation, related to commercial carriers and the safety monitoring thereof.

The comment from someone about a broken wire in trunk harness seems quite possible; it acts like a bad splice, broken wire, bad connector, etc. I can't figure out how to get to the part of the harness that goes into the body however; I can get to the part in the trunk, where license plate lamps & lock are; but what about the other side? It goes into the trunk hinge assembly.
