Hello and thank you to all who have built and contributed to this site. We purchased a used silver 2006 280 automatic in October 2012 for the occasional weekend outing. We've put 7K miles on it in three years; it now has 88K miles on it. The left front tire developed a spontaneous leak in the sidewall a couple of days ago so today I had a new set of tires mounted. And then I noticed how yellow the light covers have become. Then the console armrest cover latch stuck open. Then a message popped up stating that COMAND needed to shut down because the battery was weak. Seeing these events as a potentially bad omen, I joined this forum to figure out whether I should keep the car, run away, or hire an exorcist. Looking forward to participating in discussions.

Hi and welcome to SLKWorld.com from the UK Midlands - Thanks for joining us! :)

Some great R171 info, including Owner’s/Maintenance/COMAND manuals, etc.:
Bill's Den: Documents

Don’t forget to lube those seals:

Mods you should think about doing to your SLK:
• SmartTop: http://www.slkworld.com/general-discussion/121481-what-smarttop-all-members-keep-talking-about.html
• Clear or tinted side markers (for USA-spec cars)
• Shorty antenna
• LED license plate bulbs
• LED parking lights
• Chrome indicator bulbs (still flash orange, but removes the ‘fried egg’ look from your headlight housings)
• Carbon fibre on the C pillars: http://www.slkworld.com/general-modifications-r171/50849-ive-taken-cf-plunge.html
• OEM windscreen or Lighted/etched windscreen

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
• Post your VIN (or VIN of a car you're looking at) in the Vehicle Datacard Request section to get a free datacard (options on the car).
FREE!! How to get a free data card!
• If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
• If you wish to become PM (Private Message) capable, you need 15 posts. To get those 15 posts quickly, just go to the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section and welcome enough new members to obtain your needed posts to PM.
• Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If iPhone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as iPhone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.
• Want to ‘like’ or thank’ someone’s comments? Use the ‘like’ button to the right or the ‘Thanks’ button, bottom right of any individual’s post that you like. This saves you having to comment.
• New members should be aware that the 'New Posts' link in the info bar towards the top of the screen is a great way to see all of the posts you have missed since you were on the forum last. Remember to click 'mark forums read' under ‘quick links’ when you leave.
• Also vote or enter our Ride of the Month competition: ROTM Submissions & Voting - Mercedes Benz SLK Forum

Thank you
Dave

Hello and welcome from sunny France...:smile::smile:

I am sure that the little niggles are just the car's way of saying..."I deserve some extra tlc".....and this is certainly the best forum for advice, help and support.

Re the tyre.. sounds like it was 9 years old and ready to go anyway.. since 10 years is widely reckoned to be retirement age... so no evil spirits there

I am sure that more-knowledgeable others will chime in pretty quickly... but I believe Faulty/Low Battery will definitely give all sorts of problems ...and you have received a message to that effect...:crying:. .so getting that checked out and changed if necessary.. could keep you one step ahead of the dreaded gremlins.... >:D

Using the Search engine might prove useful....as I am sure most of your niggles have already been covered....over the years...

.Anyway.. best of luck..:x

Hello form North Carolina! Fix it....keep it; however, keep the number for the exorcist and your username. Both may come in handy
