2007 slk55 amg 30K miles was perfect condition. I was rear ended about a week ago. I move forward to give the car coming some room but she still hit me at 15-20 mph and I rolled into the car in front of me. It still runs and drives like a dream and everything still functions. The damage looked like a few thousand. My first repair estimate was 22K and another was 12K. I like the car but hate the high service and insurance and the price of parts are almost crazy. The insurance co is offering to repair like new or give me a ck for 20K and then I could sell the car as is. I stopped at Mercedes dealer to ask if they knew shop that might be interested. They wanted to buy it for 10K and have been calling wanting to close the deal.. Not sure what to do, hate giving up a beautiful car for 10k or driving a dented vehicle. Anyone know of someone or that would go 15K? I could probably get the dealer to go up to 12K and the insurance ck would make 32K. Or have it fixed and have a vehicle worth 35-38K maybe. I've owned it a few years and with tax and licenses have about 45K in it...Decisions decisions, new tires and just serviced. If anyone in California is interested I would sell for 15k as is.. Or any advice would be appreciated..I have all estimates and pic if interested..Not really sure why I'm posting, I guess just venting and maybe someone needs parts or doesn't mind a little damage... If I wanted it repaired with insurance they have to use genuine Mercedes parts but if I were to use bondo probably half the price..I just hate paying Mercedes their crazy prices even though it the other parties insurance. The worst damage is to the tip of the hood and back plastic bumper cover..

Try and get the 10k up to 11 or 12k then take it and run.

A good condition 2007 55 with 30k miles, you could probably sell for about 30k. Once you get the salvaged title you'll be lucky to get low-mid 20s.

I would take the 30~32k between dealer+insurance and then look for a different car.

That's my one big concern about this car would be a rear end collision. I could only imagine if, god forbid, a higher sitting SUV or truck rear ends me.. I can see the top mechanisms being damaged.

Take the Insurance and Dealer offer.... About what it would sell for without an accident. Dependpent upon the amount of damage ($22,000 seems really high), I would be concerned regarding how the Top functions after the repair.... Sold a Crossfire convertible for the same reason.....

Thank you all for your input. Here are a few pics. I was told the title would not be salavaged but might show up on carmax. It drives live the day I bought. No way I will sell it to mercedes for less than 12K. The trunk doesn't latch because of the crease on the side my the gas door, but the trunk closes tight. They get you on the services and the parts. 12K in parts!!! I think I'll put it on craigslist for 15K and see what happens. A lot of theses young kids don't care about a few dents especially after they drive it. I think I could get the truck to close and the top to work myself, maybe. I have the front grill and misc parts that were not hurt but came off at crash. thanks again for all advice..

:confused:Looks like minor damage to the unsuspecting eye. Personally, I'd take the insurance money and advertise for sale on all available source. I bet your phone would ring off the hook for $12000. I'd bump it up to $14500 and test the market. Good luck.

If it was just the bumper cover and the hood, that's one thing. But the r-r fender denting, that's a whole 'nother ball game. Take the $30k and start shopping!

So I'm with Mycroft here - frame damage on an SLK is not something I'd want to have to deal with, and at least one of your guys knows this.

The purely cosmetic damage is < $8k at retail prices, and a good shop would be closer to $5.5k, so there's something else everyone is worried about........

thanks again, I put it on Craigslist and sold for 15K to first caller.. I guess it was a decent deal for me. I could of had it fixed like new, so the body shop says. And then sell it for around 35K. I see the prices are all over the place on auto trader. I'm happy to be done with it for 35K. Now the insurance co is wanting to settle on whiplash. It was minor but the lawyers were calling me. I don't care much for lawyers and will probably settle for 5K for dr appt and the hassle with out getting involved with attorneys and more dr appts. It was very stressful. For some dumb reason I canceled full coverage on all my vehicle 12 hr before the accident. The girl that hit me was lying to the cop right in front of me saying I slammed on my breaks and then told the insurance co i had all ready ran into the car in front of me before she hit me. Good thing the people in front saw me stopped behind them 15-20 seconds before the single crash. 19 year old girl, second rear ending in a month.. I changed my coverage back to full coverage. I'm 60 and have never caused an accident is why I changed coverage. But now i see with out full coverage your on your own when it come to dealing with the other parties insurance. I've been rear ended 3 times in the past 15 years..good luck to you all, I think my next car I will look for more confortable. The mercedes was a blast to drive but was a kind of unconfortable. I might even try american car for the first time ever. I can't complain about the five new honda accords i owned in the past. So I'll still thinking about it. I'm over the mid-life crisis thing so I going for creature conforts with some power. Any suggestions?

:tu:Good for you. I sold my SLK 55 and now drive a Lexus IS 350. I loved the 55 but love the Lexus as well. Different cars, but both have their pluses. Good luck with your next vehicle choice.

I learned that lesson myself a few years ago. Lucky for me, the other guy's insurance company was on the up-and-up and things turned out well. From now on, ALWAYS full coverage, even for beaters! The difference in price isn't worth it.

Before giving up on Mercedes roadsters completely, I would recommend giving the SL line a try. You can find an '08 550 for less than $50k easily! The seats are MUCH more comfortable and there's some seriously nice storage space behind the seats.

I upped my insurance coverage recently. I thought it would be ridic. price but for 20.00 more a month I went from 30/50/50 to 100/300/100 Well worth it IMO. I will never go without full coverage again.

I think it was good for you to get rid of it. A crease in the side panel like that usually indicates "frame" damage. That is why it was so expensive I am willing to bet. If it was just the sheet metal it would have been 8-10k (from the pictures posted)
