Hello,

As SLC's are getting over 3 years old, I see a few for sale now under £20k.
Is it worth the upgrade from a R172?, apart from the revised styling, don't see much difference.

Must say the R172 looks more sporty too

Appreciate any comments from those that have made the change.

Cheers

Depending on what Model Year SLK you refer, you may get upgraded 9 speed transmission, color instrument cluster, and of course, the newer infotainment system.
The engines of the SLC are also newer and more eco friendly.

You might also find SLC's still under warranty.

You should also take into consideration that, while you may find SLC's under 20k, they may lack many options that you could otherwise find on an SLK under 20k.

As you also said, and as a personal preference, I think the SLK looks more muscular, with the edgy shapes, rather than the curved shaped SLC.

As the SLC is a refresh/facelift, I would normally say go for it, but since, from design point of view, the SLK looks better, and most of the things found in the SLC can be found in the SLK, I would personally go with the SLK.

Thanks, so the SLK250d engine is different to the SLC250d engine?
Do you know the differences, assuming both have 9 speed Transmission.

9G-Tronic automatic gearbox, except for the 180 and 200 in which a manual 6-speed gearbox is standard,[17] although the automatic is available in option.

Plenty for sale on Autotrader, both with 9 Speed Auto Transmission.
only thing i can say is that in uk/overseas, as an example, the r171 came out 2004 but years for r171 are 2005-2011

same for r172...came out by you in 2011 but in usa 2012

or autotrader be wrong :D

if 9 speed cannot be slk...just saying

title says 7 speed - just shows they do not know what it has

Mercedes-Benz SLK 2.1 SLK250d AMG Sport 7G-Tronic Plus (s/s) 2dr

This car has the later 9G Tiptronic gearbox in the new model, not the 7G normally in this model.

maybe it had trans issues and owner got a 9g as a replacement

Though I'm not sure the COMAND is that much better, though agree the 9G box is very slick..
