Hi All,
I have the Garmin sat nav SD card in my SLC. Works well and comes with free software and traffic updates for 3 years.
Trouble is if I remove it to put say a music SD card in then the sat nav stops working and insists that it must have the SD card in to operate. Kind of makes the SD slot useless for anything else. Is there a way of downloading it to the cars memory so I can use the SD card slot for other things? Can’t find anything helpful in the manual. Does the car actually have a memory for loading in sat nav info? Any advice appreciated.
Cheers.

Doesn't the car have a built in music hard drive? Download your music from your SD card onto that then replace the satnav SD card.....

Thanks Tony,
I tried to do that from a USB stick but it only imported track titles and details still needed the USB stick in place.
Could try it again from the SD card though.
Cheers, David

I downloaded my tracks from ITunes onto SD card and popped it in the slot, the car did the rest with some prompts

Just a comment but I do everything from my Smart Phone, the car is really just an amplifier with volume control and speakers. This includes hands free phone (needed to add a microphone), engine parameters & diagnostics, GPS with live traffic reports , and about 500 albums. Most can use voice for instructions. And I have exactly the same thing & use the same phone in my other cars. One $45/month subscription to manage.

Only real difference is three of them have Bluetooth, others (including my '70) use an aux jack. Even have Bluetooth in the travel trailer & can stream TV with an HDMI output.

Phone has a 128GB SD card, am told a 256 works but have not tried. One device to control them all.

Started thinking this way in '12 and works for me.

I have a GLA with the Garmin Nav that also uses the SD card for the maps. If I remove the SD card the Nav will not work. It appears that the Nav does not save the maps with in the system. Do not see anything that the entertainment system has a hard drive to save anything, either uses the SD card or USB or Bluetooth connection to a device.

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Florida!

First please update your location and vehicle (Put Looking!)(year?: 1996-2018, model?: 32, 43, 200, 230, 250, 280, 300, 320, 350, 55) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t. This takes about 30 seconds to do.

Follow exactly to update: ‘Usercp’ at the top of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’. Info in your garage does not update your profile.

Ah good question, it's on the front dash sort of under the under the CD slot.
Mine is occupied by my sat nav SD card which is a bit of a pain as sat nav only works if the sd card is in, (stupid MB)!

So my music USB drive is in the USB slot under the central arm rest.
Got to admit the MB music system is a bit clunky to navigate compared to other cars I have had.
But hey one gets used to it!
