Hello a few years ago I tried to jumpstart my friends car and after that I noticed my fuel gauge stopped working. It usually goes past full and turns until it is touching the other gauge. Some other times it will just randomly move around I just use the odometer to keep track now but I really want to fix it. Any ideas?

Could I just use sea foam I have been told to use that before to clean up the engine.
Never used it (but thought about it). I've read some good reviews about seafoam and a lot of not-so-good threads about it.

Techron is the rage here {ie: this forum; if you can get it). I don't because it's not generally available here.

Alternatives (for us Northerners) http://www.optimaforums.com/forum/6-optima-engine-technical-discussion/12973-chevron-techron-substitute-canadians.html

UPDATE: After about two years the car final gave me a code. The code is P0460 Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit. I am going to see what I can do about the float and the circuit if anyone could give me any info on the sensor.

This may sound a bit weird but when my fuel gauge stopped working I traced it back to the dash wiring harness not being clipped back in properly after changing dash bulbs.

Have you been behind the dash recently ???

Hallo,

Exact the same happened to me this afternoon. Replaced bulbs in the cluster and the fuel gauge was at 0.
The lock of the left connector did not "grabbed" the receptacle from the cluster. Reconnected, all normal.
