Front Anti Roll Bar - Slight Knocking When Turning

1649 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Pezzer
Hi, i have a slight knocking when turning the 55 AMG SLK. Ive replaced most parts on the front (arms/links etc) as well as engine mounts. I have a very good mechanic who services etc and he says the anti roll bar may need replacing. Does anyone know about the cost and also the part number of the front anti roll bar? also anywhere in the UK i can get one cheaper than buying direct from Merc? i don't mind a nearly new/used one along as condition is good, depends on price difference really.

Please help guys.

Thanks
Aaron

I doubt very much that the roll bar itself needs replacing. The bushings which hold it, however, might well have worn out and require replacement. That bar is stout steel and won't break unless it's been very badly corroded.
Unfortunately, the bushings are not sold separately. You may be able to find an aftermarket bushing of the correct size. Also, the drop links that connect the ends of the sway bar to the front struts have small ball joints and one of them may be bad. That would be your best and cheapest to repair scenario.

Part numbers:
Sway bar with body bushings: 171 323 59 65
Drop Link: 171 323 00 17 (one on each side)
