Ok So I had been in France for only 3 hours and pulled in to get fuel and the Police pull up next to me!! I had not been speeding!! I was aware this would cost lots of Euros..... But guess who left the mount for their radar detector on the windscreen :(

So yeah first I was on UK plates in a nice car and yeap I am English! So you guessed it the French relations were not nice!! and I am being polite now, as they just hate us! Quote "Give me your radar detector or I will take your car!" WTF!! I did not even know if it was in the car!! So yeap it was in the car note though power cable is in the UK!! so can not use it but due to the French police HATING the English (yes they do!) I lose my mount, detector and wait for it €750 EUR = £660 GBP YES £660..........

So "apparently" it goes to court in a few months and €750 EUR (£660) is a deposit (in English the max fine) So I am sure that the Judge will just rubber stamp it and send me a letter "thanks for the €'s EUR's" no change given!!!

I have to say I did not think I had the unit and I also did not know that even in the boot (trunk) it is still "apparently" illegal!! :td:

Guess once my Euro trip is over I will be avoiding this great country!!

BTW note to all UK owned cars that come to France, I have it first hand from the two nice French policemen that they single out UK cars and we are all tared with the same brush and they like to take our money!! I was told "Why don't you go home!" Ok great Anglo relationship and well I hate to say this word but just pure racism against the English!

Was this in the North or the South of France, usually the South of France are great with the Brits, lots of them are there during the years especially in the summer. Sorry to hear about this hefty fine, how about a custom laser detector in the rear view mirror like a Valentine one. It might go around £ 1,800 for a custom install and its very discrete.

I travel to france each year and I use the trapster program on my phone, it detects speed cameras, red lights and what not. I highly recommend it its available for BlackBerry, Iphone, the NSeries Nokia, Android phones etc.

You can select the distance for the alarm .400 meteres, .800, 1.5 etc

I think there are many friendly people in France, usually the smaller villages and towns are better than the larger city's and urban areas. True, some can be stuck up and claim that they dont speak English when they do ( I can speak french, took a crash course 2nd level). Any ways, Glad that you haven't went to a Police Station and got your car towed etc and I hope your next experience in France is a better one.
