Hi @M4rCu5 ,

Here's the 200 MPH Cluster decals, should get 'em soon ..............

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/X12-Bespoke-SLk-5-0-Brabus-Decals/283634853912?hash=item4209f46818:g:7SIAAOSwteRdmb17

Cheers for now, Dave

Oh I'm following your meddlings alright and I know you've had a headache or two from other pursuits :surprise:
The seller seems to have done a nice job there for you :tu:

So .. understandably, you missed my last post (post#78) HERE.
I reckon I can do a full custom face relatively easily now that I have the templates made up and have the materials identified. Possibly illuminated logos/graphics as per OE .. I've learnt a few tricks and have come to a few conclusions in the last few weeks - my quest is still ongoing but I'll get there >:D

Hi @M4rCu5 ,

Hope these are OK ............

Regarding my current woes I think the KTAG has some sort of idiot proof software in it that doesn't allow you to swap the EEPROM file from ECU to ECU ................

Well that's no bloody good to me is it, that was the whole idea of buying it.

It will successfully write the MICRO ST and the FLASH files from one ECU to another and will also Write the ECU's own EEPROM file back and forth, (most times), but will not swap one for another :(

I know for sure there are no checksums etc. has been verified by other men in black suits >:D

I have now bricked 2 out of 4 EBay ECU's with all the soldering etc. This is why I'm not prepared to risk it on the R170 or the Donors ECU right now :(

Seriously considering going the Virginise EEPROM route next, then try and marry it to the R170 using SDS DAS, if that works I will ceremoniusly burn KTAG and all the stuff that came with it ;)

Cheers Dave

@Dave2302

Sounds like you're having a 'mare with those, too many headaches for me but I know you'll persevere, I don't envy you at all so good luck with them :tu:

-------------------------------------------------------------

Those pics are perfect, thanks, makes a change for the photo'd circles to actually be circular >:D

This I can work with so you can leave that with me, I'm actually enjoying playing with these :grin:

Ongoing ..

Hi @M4rCu5 ,

My Initials (DJM) should actually read DJ OT (T) M :p

If you can get the Logo's to light up, (Green Crossfire Illum), and also the LIM light then I will definitely be your first customer !! :grin:

BRABUS has to be all capitals tho IMHO ;)

Now, here's a thing, has anyone actually checked the Pin Out's on Cluster, or tried testing one in an SLK, to make sure it actually all works properly in an R170 ..................

It is just slightly possible that Chrysler or MB modded the FLASH somehow, so belt and braces and all that ..................

I don't have time atm, but when I've got my logo's, (yup they are in the post) once that is all done I'll find an hour or so to test it :grin:

I don't thing there's anything OT in there tho I'm sure someone will correct me :biglaugh:

Cheers Dave

I'm into car illumination in a big way! On my other car (An Audi A2) The front Audi emblem (The rings) light up in blue. The back rings light up red. The rear number-plate is fully and uniformly back-lit. I can't get a handle on what you've been doing, though? Green illumination does seem a bit "alien" to me? Why did you choose that colour? My SLK is blue metallic, so if I had chosen any colour, then it would have been blue ..... I'm always interested in other member's ideas, so keep it up!

Hi David

The hunt began for a black speedo fascia - a classic retro look - there are one or two shops on the 'web that will sell you one at a price - I happened to stumble upon a fascia that Turdo2 identified as Chrysler Crossfire. Exact same dimensions as the R170 fascia but in black :tu:

I agree re. the green illuminations but that's by Chrysler design. Dave likes it lol
There's what appears to be a green cellophane sheet embedded/sandwiched between two other sheets from what I can make out and there's not a lot you can do about it apart from putting different coloured bulbs behind them to get a different effect. i.e. Blue or Red or Amber lights illuming and projecting through the green cellophane gives some real fruity colours >:D

Been there, done that. But that's not where I want to be .. it's good but I reckon we can do better.

It has crossed my mind that what we have here is 60-70yr old tech re. fascia illumes, designed way before there was such a thing as coloured LEDs.

So .. start from scratch with a choice graphics program, trace out exact shape/dimensions from a decent scan to make a template, fettle and fiddle and meddle to your heart's content and now we're ready to attempt to reconstruct :)

Ongoing WIP but plan is to:

Trial print onto paper just to make sure that everything is in place. I know for a fact that I need axx to an A3 printer OR cut the face into 2 or 3 parts and then rejoin - easy enough but the Crossfire/SLK fascia does not fit onto an A4 which is a PITA. Final verified top layer print to be on heat-proof clear acetate :tu:

Replace the cello layer with a heat-proof clear frosted acetate sheet and then any colour illume can come from whatever coloured bulbs you choose to have .. I want White. OR just use a different coloured acetate sheet to achieve your desired colour if it happens to be a non-white that you're looking for.

A 3rd or even 4th sheet of acetate may be required as a light shield and I may even end up with one layer being a mosaic of sorts. I'll find out soon enough (when I get time)

Ongoing but enjoying playing >:D

Hi David,

For me it was simply I wanted the Black Face 200mph Cluster, but I didn't want Cluster Illum Green with Switches etc White.

I can easily change Illum Colour of my Android in 10 seconds flat, so I bought Crossfire Switches to match which have Green LED's and converted them using R170 Rockers very easy and quick.

Now, I used Green LED's for things that don't work from Crossfire, like the HVAC Controls, Roof Switch etc this was my quickest easiest way to get the Cluster I want to match the Switchgear etc ................

Now, when all the other work is done, and as my Car is Blue, then yeah I'd rather have Blue Illum, so I will likely revisit this job in a year or 2 time ;)

Cheers Dave

@Dave2302
That probably fits with my timeframe >:D
@DAJ 190
A blue face I can do unless I Crash 'n Burn and fail miserably :surprise:
I might change a few more things yet i.e. fonts or swap the 'slippery road' for the more traditional warning triangle .. call it artistic license :grin:

So .. the software in itself is pretty much sorted, just added a backing to the speedometer bit just because .. that's it for now tho so it's onto phase 2 .. :nerd:
