Hey guys, hope everyone's had a nice holiday.
I recently picked up and installed the Vogtland's lowering springs for the R171 SLK and am presently surprised. I'll leave a quick before and after, and at the request of anyone would be happy to walk everyone through the process of replacing springs on the R171 SLK if asked.
Despite the drop, ride comfort actually improved from the previous SLK55 springs, and turn in seems to be more responsive. Overall very impressed.
Lastly, these are just the stock 17" Launch edition wheels. :splif:

I live a couple of hours outside Sydney where the potholes and road surfaces ate relatively good however when there are surface issues you could lose a tank in them!

I find the roads in Sydney city itself are like most urban streets and full of flaws you know are there because you drive into every one of them!

The question is... hows the lowering affect the ride in adverse road conditions? I'd hate to spill my champagne from a spine crushing jolt!

Spilling your champagne shouldn't be a problem as long as you're not drinking and driving anyways! :wink:

Regardless, the ride isn't too bad after springs, and I find it to be more bearable than the OEM simply because there's less suspension travel. Here in Austin the roads can definitely get a bit choppy simply due to all the repaving that's been going on here, but push comes to shove I don't mind it too much. But truly, no matter what I say bearable for me could be horribly unbearable for you. It's no Bentley, but it's nowhere near as uncomfortable as say an FRS or an RX8 if you've ever driven those. Just make sure that when you install these lowering springs you also go with the code 486 shocks, because the non sport shocks probably won't enjoy operating outside their normal range. :usa:

Thx Ox. Agree it's all relative but I do like the lowered look.

BTW we never drink and drive in Australia but if we did fortunately there are a whole lot less things, cars and people to hit than in the USA! Just gotta watch the Roos though!
